SiFu Marcos demonstra Wing Chun Kung Fu em novo video! SiFu MArcos demonstrates Wing Chun in his New Video!

SiFu does not like making videos or photos. Contrary to what we, your students think, he finds himself a "rhino" in front of the cameras. However, a few years ago we had been trying to do some productions in a very amateurish way, in a good way amateur, of those who really love what they do, and this helped to give more publicity to our Headquarters school and also to the Nuclei spread throughout Brazil and outside Brazil ...

For some time now I have been doing some videos with the nucleus of the Brazilian Wing Chun Academy of Recife, doing some technical analysis for the Blog in order to bring a bit of how we work here. But believe me, I do not like the videos I make! That's because despite being an intermediate level student, I do not think I'm talented enough and that's precisely why I've been training and studying as much as I can. When some big names praise some of my videos, believe me, I do not let that make me gloat ... Quite the contrary; I have always seen this as one more responsibility I will have in keeping training level, which makes me train even more. No, there is no false modesty here ... Even because a false modesty only generates laziness and inflated ego ...

And in the middle of the field, SiFu rarely posts your videos. Since he is the patriarch of our school, it is natural for him to guard himself in many respects. However, in recent months due to his long-awaited participation in CONA - National Congress of Martial Arts, SiFu has been making videos with my Kung Fu brothers and also requested that we, his disciples, also film, what was and is being done . From my turn, we shot before the carnival and we're still in the process. My Si Hing Lucas, who is in Spain, has already made some videos as well.

Se você ainda não viu o vídeo, segue logo abaixo e se você ainda não se inscreveu para assistir a palestra do CONA, você poderá fazer sua inscrição gratuita no link abaixo;

'Gun Sau', as well as some other hands of Wing Chun system are not as obvious as the most known to the public as Bong Sau, Fook Sau, Tan Sau, Wu Sau, etc etc, but it is extremely useful when put into defensive sequences for its ability to surprise the opponent and allow you to reposition yourself for a counter-coup. Today, we will talk about how we can, in response to a combination of kick and direct punch, use this movement to while away a true or false investee remain with structure enough and well positioned to continue attacking relatively safely .

I remember the day that Si Fu gave me this technique, it was a very difficult day on my second trip to your house, in Salvador,  were sick, almost no one showed up at school and a lack of light in the neighborhood prevented him from training within the Mogwun that even in retirement, was really hot, and in those days, Salvador was in summer, which worsened things ... we trained all day and even with the lack of most SiFu students that day, the solution was to go down to the street and we train in the square which is right near the SiFu's house. A taxi point near to the square to one newsstand ace which I had seen a deluxe edition of the Amazing Spider-Man and I was crazy to buy, although with short money ... well ....

Gun Sau é um dos 108 gestos técnicos - ou um dos elementos técnicos - que aparece na forma Siu Nim Tau, mais especificamente na sua segunda parte - executado em 4 direções distintas. Esquerda e direita, atrás e para frente. A energia, na forma, é de um estapear, nessas 4 direções. Vejamos;

We put the chest protectors and at that moment I remembered the Tae Kwon Do classes what i got from my father when I was still a child and I do not remember exactly whether I comment with SiFu on the occasion, so that those guards were giants in me during these training with my father and how I '' disappeared '' in them ... kid stuff ... but those same guards would be very useful, although at the time, had not understood how well they would help but ... when SiFu said; - '' Put it, '' I did without even flinching!
SiFu would pass me there a technical application called ''Gun Sau  step back'' to cover direct attacks, usually come with kicks and apply the combination with Tan Da, at that stage of the game, I understand. The question there was whether I had a good base to make the technical gesture which - according SiFu - was even more important than their own coverage itself
Gun Sau is one of 108 technical gestures - or one of the elements of movement - which appears in the Siu Nim Tau form, specifically in the second part - run in 4 different directions. Left and right, back and foward. The energy in the form, it is a slap in these four directions. Let's see;

In these older photos, I show you Gun Sau in the Siu Lin Tau form. Note that the hands take a natural distance from the body, or will very 'open', not too glued to the body. SiFu says that the intention is the same movement you do to lean on and climb a wall. The difference is that you do not '' stretch '' the body in this movement, as in the form indeed in any case, nothing is moving except the arms ... you do not bounce at the base, you should not stretch or shrink the body, nothing.In Siu NimTau form, NOTHING MOVES, EXCEPT YOUR ARMS, always remember that.

Sitaaigung Duncan says that Gun Sau is like the same type of energy - read here ''energy'' as the effort in a given angle and direction, nothing to do with chi, ki or whatever - is like the Pak Sau in these 4 directions, to redirect the opponent's attack and this case in particular, will be used to close the entire body of the front area, with the help of Wu Sau ( defensive hand, also seen in Siu Nin Tau), while changing the base using Toy Mah, with a step in diagonal and back, escaping the onslaught of the opponent.

Notice the emphasis; Wu Sau closing the face, regardless of the opponent's attack is real or not, I protect this land before the charge is set.

Usually we say that in Wing Chun ,you training to be '' natural reactions'. A person without any ability to fight since being attacked, the first thing she does is take a step back and lean to avoid the punch. It is a  'natural reaction', so to speak. Now, this is not the same thing as training for the technique to BE the natural reaction. This will depend on how many 'flight hours'', as SiFu say to me, you will have to apply this movement without thinking about it. And yet, this by itself does not guarantee success in the time of application.
Unlike the idea that the most '' traditionalists 'claim that the Wing Chun' 'does not step back', we will here use a step back, yes, but in a intelligent way, so that we can find the right timing, avoid shock force against the opponent's strength and we are well positioned. It is here that will show how much you really trained their bases or not! You'll have to use what we need to ask is not it? Why not a step back?

Toy Mah walking back, here is what will ensure that the opponent's attack did not achieve as the Gun Sau will simply defend the area, not the blow of the opponent who may well be a fake shot to advance with punch. This is the most important movement! But when it comes to ensuring the exposed areas, you should put both hands together for a single moment. Therefore, Wu Sau in this case is as important as the Gun Sau, because once you '' miss '' the opponent's kick and it continues a combo with punches, or if it simply fake a blow and launch another coup, you will already be covered, leaving there just change the flank and attacking.

The big challenge is to make the horse,or your base out as much as possible back and the diagonal, escaping from the opponent's blow, without open too much the base, because yes, if you are too short bases, you will have not mobile enough to move forward, if you have too many open base, will take a low kick and there is half way walking to be knocked out, or receive a stomp on the knee - one of the punishments I like to apply.

As we have mentioned here on the blog; If you are all the time just covering and covering, from trying a time the opponent will hit you ... you should realize the correct timing to be able to know the right time to move on and fight back. Knowing the right time to put pressure on the opponent ... I've seen a lot of people are saying connoisseur of Wing Chun and the time that a beginner puts minimal pressure in their attacks, the technique disappear!
 Once you've covered the side, you should run to close the other and knock together! This hit along comes this technique in particular, exactly when you will reverse your base and move, either with Tan Da, be with Pak Da, is that technique is. It is your time to hit and move. For that, we need to be incisive! The illustration here shows only one attack, but the idea is to continue with various types of attacks ... the idea of defending underneath and with the same hand cover the top, brings us the same idea of the movement we do when we open the Siu Nim Tau form;  Seung Ganh Sau and Seung Tan Sau, running the center line,this is a  the common idea to other lineages of wing chun, different from ours, but I can illustrate using a common image, as in the figure below.

SiFu showed me first this technique, on that fateful day in the square, '' Gun Sau '' with '' Tan Da 'going the other way with punch hook to the ribs at the same time (and for that served the chest protectors to ensure you should really punch without seriously injuring his training partner), with a strong blow in the ribs, cover and hitting at once, without much continuity in the sequence, as I was in those days, reviewing the Siu Nim Tau.

  But here, show a variation with Lap Da, only to be common to most practitioners of other lines of Wing Chun who visit us here; Since I cover with Gun Sau and changing my horse - already moving - Tan sau as a second movement, use to close further on, I transform my hand Tan Sau for Lap Da and caught the punch the opponent, fighting back with straight punch. The idea in the context remains the same; since I have hit a heavy blow, I continue the punishment with more and more attacks

There a trick on this gif  that only a really sharp eye can see ... you see what it is? If yes, comment here .... If you could not see, try again ...

Gun Sau stepping back followed by a sequence of counter attacks can be a good opportunity to test how functional your horse can be and how you can make your advances and retreats by the heat of the struggle, without necessarily being at an all time low in combat.

Usually I do not like to comment on videos from other families in the large clan which is the Wing Chun (Ving Tsun), referring as a whole. Because I believe that there is no single method that is actually the epitome of the system. I do believe that there are students of Yip Man who are still alive, those who focus on the system at a certain point and they are good enough to transmit it - their understanding of art - competently. So, discuss differences between families, whether they are right or wrong, does not make much difference ...

The case is that some people possibly ask me to evaluate footage and interestingly the last week I was asked to give an opinion on a video of a guy here in my little land. I honestly do not give a damn ... If it's a friendly person, I say how much the person is cool or how we talk or not, without giving further technical explanations. If  the guy on the video is not my friend or i do not know, I prefer to speak absolutely nothing, not enter the case if the guy can be good or not. For me, it does not change anything at all and in fact, do not judge me able to observe and critique technical errors - other than my own

Moreover, I am learning a very important thing; The Mo Lam (and even beyond), anything - absolutely anything - a practitioner can do or say, will have serious consequences that often are not even perceived, or that may not directly affect you, but will affect other people. Also I will do not give names on this case,  by a simple matter of ethics ..
However, this time I think that abound, videos of Wing Chun system demonstrations can stroll between the actual, real and a bad joke and ridiculous. Yes, unfortunately, the latter are most ...

How often you dear reader, watched a video on youtube any, showing a '' Real Fight '' with a practitioner of Wing Chun and the face of Wing Chun loses the fight - or even win, but anything convincingly - and below is a flurry of comments like; - '' This is not the real wing chun! '', '' This is not the authentic Wing Chun !! '', or, 'This wing chun is modified ...' 'and blah blah blah .. ..This is a fairly common phenomenon ... is the kind of argument used mainly by those who try to make your wing chun stands out, either commercially, technically, etc, etc ...

Para podermos ter um norte, é necessário estabelecermos alguns pontos importantes;

The point is that - apart from the fact that these guys always overvalue their styles without even being aware of how the other martial arts works, because we really believe that their style is the '' last cookie package '' and excluding YipMan, they think taht they are ''fighting gods'' - without training that is facing the reality, for 'the real thing' ', no - I repeat - NO fighting style will be effective. It's that simple! But there comes a question; What is the reality, in terms of combat?

In order to have a north, it is necessary to establish some important points;

1) While martial art, we can distinguish the Chinese martial arts in two very basic ways; demonstrative arts and applied arts.

a) - demonstrative Arts may be those whose elaborate movements difficult to perform attract the audience for his show and plasticity. The training is very, very hard, however, their original techniques have little or no applicability in situations where an opponent will attack with full force, full speed and with non-classical attacks. The school usually brags about his marvelous deeds and has wide range of commercial power and conviction.

b) - Since the applied arts is its inverse; They are martial arts that does not have much - if any - plastic beauty, with equally difficult training, but their movements are highly strategic applicability in combat. Its principles and concepts are meant to fight, not for entertainment. A school of applied art that deals with what is' real fight '' in fact, never use it as marketing banner ... that because the person who practices it, its teachers and students are fully self-sufficient in terms of safety technique and need not boast of anything. Silent work!

2) While some advocate the idea that the real fight is the one where your life really is under imminent threat and rare are the times when a person finds himself in a kind of situation like this - working their coping techniques under the 'symbolic action' '(a term that very misunderstood and used pejoratively as' pretend to fight, '' by some people who do not quite understand the real meaning of the term) at the other end we have other teachers, instructors and / or teachers who say - the proper proportions - a fight in a competitive environment as the UFC, K1 and the like, can get too close to something more '' realistic '', as the brutality and the way the fight goes on - with few safety rules for the competitors - is similar to what would be a real confrontation ... training this case has nothing to do with the discussion.

Perhaps the most sensible is not lean toward either extreme. The case is that it has been proven by many examples in practice that a sports training can not be fully effective when placed in a real attack situation. A real example was the death of a fighter of mixed fights, shot down with a hell of a whack on the head of an aggressor that he did not notice the approach when facing a group of people with your partner (see here the matter;http://g1.globo.com/sc/santa-catarina/noticia/2013/07/lutadores-de-mma-se-envolvem-em-briga-em-posto-de-gasolina-veja-video.html) ... And training for an uncontrolled environment (if, in this case in particular, there could be one), you may need to be adapted to function properly in a competitive environment. Those who followed the interview with my Sibaakgung Larry Saccoia, may have a idea what he tells you about it ... and I agree with him completely!

The case is a coping situation in uncontrolled environment has large variations. Not all gives to put on paper or give to simulate. Elements such as the local culture, the historical moment, the predominance of forms of combat that are practiced and more ''N'' conditions is going to say what is the reality for that environment to that state, country, etc, etc ...

In this case, fully agree with what SiFu always speaks; - '' A really efficient martial art bases its strategy to anticipate, avoid confrontation and to have a preventive attitude If you have to react A risk situation, presupposes that his martial art and its position as a strategist already failed! ''

We learned this the hard way with the death, a few years ago, my Si-Hing Eduardo ... But when it comes to practice martial arts, what I mean - briefly - it is; How one fight in Spain is completely different from the way someone struggle in China, Brazil or Zimbabwe ... and so on.

What amazes me most is that many former practitioners of the art do not realize it and often when they train with a teacher come from outside, it has a great experience in struggle and everything else, even if they learn really interesting techniques, do not end taking this into consideration and believe that the epitome of divine technique is centralized. And what happens is that in a fight, whatever the subject passes embarrassment and turns joke ... and think that some even fight!

And it gives me a strange feeling to see that many people think that Wing Chun is' cat fight '' ... as a friend spoke pejoratively practicing Hapkido in a post on a social network ... Obviously, as I do not joke with art from anyone, I am extremely offended when they make jokes of mine ... but the fact is that the joke often makes sense!

Acho que já até mencionei aqui uma frase bastante usual em nossa escola sede em salvador que utilizamos justamente pra abordar esse assunto - ''Na prática, a teoria é outra parceiro!'' E é isso ai mesmo!Mas, mesmo assim, de toda a sorte, eu lhe faço uma pergunta amigo leitor;

The real thing in martial art is; You can learn a curriculum from A to Z of any martial art it is, but without experience against someone really willing will '' take your head off '' - as they say in popular jargon - that is, someone who will get hit (! !!) you will not get far ...
And since you always try to fight in environments that allow a body will face body, professional manner and to allow the full use of his ability as a fighter and strategist, invariably you end up learning some lessons that will not always be in school. And until you get will get away - if lucky - a real risk, you invariably, you will think thoww times about their concepts ...You have to make your art work within the conditions in which he lives and not within the conditions that others think can serve.

I think I've to mention here a very usual phrase in our school based in Salvador,  who just used to address this issue - ''! Man, In practice, the theory is another! '' And that right there But even so, all luck, I ask you a question dear reader;

What kind of Wing Chun you train?

I question it not for you that are probably reading these ordinary lines and is already practicing a serious school. But the mountains of boys and young men who will arrive by chance this site and are practicing or on their own, or youtube videos, or even alone .... Yes, there are still people who prefer this way ...

Not to mention those who believe that being formed or advanced in any other styles, whatever they may be - such as Northern Shaolin, grab Water, Drunken Bonxing ... or whatever it is - can have understanding of what Wing Chun is not never had a formal lesson on the subject.

With the new franchise about Yip Man - the continuation, in this case - with Donnie Yen once again it is likely that the phenomenon of appearing a new Wing Chun master will each corner can happen again ... and there in these conditions even Michael Jackson if a hipotetic way,was alive, it would be a practitioner of Wing Chun ...

(Isso seria um Yee Jii Kim Yeung Mah preparando para um Moonwalker???)
(That would be a Yee Ji Kim Yeung Mah preparing for a Moonwalker ???)

As Sitaaigung Duncan Leung often already said ... No matter who learned from whom, in fact. Whether you can take down an opponent with his Wing Chun.
Only to knock his opponent it takes a lot more than we do believe enough to do it. No matter how talented or how strong someone appears to be. Apply Wing Chun in fact, it will always demand more from you. Will require minimal understanding of how to properly train. To know the when, the how, the where, the '' why do '' and especially the '' why NOT do ', technical and art in sí ... and that you can only learn from a case can competent teacher ... it will also require you to take a chance and go try to find out if a technique is really effective for you or not ....

A sparring at your school - with some kung fu brother - it can even be hard, violent ... the effect of K.O. can be frustrating, difficult ... with physical and emotional distress, but still, BE VERY FAR from what the martial art meant in the past, or that a risk eminent require .... maybe it will be close YOUR reality or not ... you feel that way? How would you react to that?

SiFu  always tells me between one chat and another that; - '' Martial arts are nothing but answers to certain problems in the fight, to influence social, historical and cultural center of its region of origin. Study it and you will be able to understand any martial art ... ''

But do you want some advice? Forget the mainstream around the wing chun, my friend! Forget the blah blah blah mystic behind all the nonsense about philosophy, chi, secret curriculum and everything else ... forget the nonsense of secret technique, the biggest crap; to train with the intergalactic badass Master seminars that cost the guy in the eye to tell you a couple of stories and you get out of there with a paper in his hands thinking that is Chinese .... Forget all that! NOTHING, absolutely nothing will ensure that what you are learning is actually martial art!

Learning culture is cool and very very important, the thinking behind the move and everything, the historical roots but the reality of what combat is quite another ..... the truth is neither in these ordinary lines of this blog ... Want to know what is actually martial art? Go fight someone and find out for yourself! Look for the root ... while you continue to emulate combat experiences of a third - is your SiFu his Sihing his Sidai ... or anyone else, you will not get the essence of what the martial art is proposed. Perhaps, in this process, it would be relevant even readjust to the question; - 'For what you train martial arts?'

O desafiante de Yip Man - The Yip Man's Challenger

While '' Yip Man 3 '', continuing saga known as '' The Grandmaster '' with Donnie Yen and (amazingly) Mike Tyson, don't have your premiere here in Brazil, and all the expectation surrounding the movie only increases (yes, half of the practitioners of wing chun in Brazil have seen sneak peeks of the film in recent weeks, including the fight scene between Donnie and Tyson), I remembered that there is an interesting account of Sitaaigung Duncan Leung about Yip Man faced a their challengers within their own school. Ie a classroom account of actual combat between Yip Man and challenging!
I reproduce here a translation mine - one rough so obviously - about this interesting story ...

                                                          O Desafiante de Yip Man
* Por Sitaaigung Duncan Leung

"Existiam estórias sobre os encontros marciais do SiFu, tanto em Foshan como em Hong Kong. Estes episódios tinham diferentes apelidos, tipo ;

* By Sitaaigung Duncan Leung

"There were stories about martial meetings of SiFu both in Foshan and Hong Kong These episodes had different nicknames, like,
-." Doubling the barrel of a gun "
- "Breaking wooden pillars with kicks."

However, Si Fu did not tell these stories, however neither denied nor acknowledged that had happened.
When the SiFu came to Hong Kong in 1949, he had been dismissed and appealed to teach Kung Fu. In those days the Wing Chun was not known in Hong Kong. To attract students at his academy, he had to disclose it.
There were numerous challengers. Those who had a real interest later end up becoming their students, but those who showed signs of contempt, invariably end up on the floor or in the hospital.

I witnessed an episode a few weeks after joining a gym (NT as a regular student), who later would become something common in my own schools. Four or five of us were training when a man with over thirty years came asking for SiFu. We thought he was one of the older brothers of Kung Fu, as the SiFu had many senior students who were older than us.
The Si Fu was taking his regular rest (after lunch) in the cubicle behind a curtain. An unusual aroma emanating from the place, different to that of cigarette smoke. Later we would discover that it was and end up used to that.
He must have heard our conversation with the man as he left the cubicle wearing wears white shirt and black pants. As he came close to the man he motioned for us to continue training. Their conversation did not take long. He turned around and told us to take a step to the side. Not knowing what was going on we went out there and we stood against the walls.

The Si Fu was 62, short stature and his weight was very light. He probably had an average height of one meter and fifty weighed 55 k he was shot down and stared blankly. His gait was upright same- and slightly tilted back, giving the impression that he was afraid to take a step foward. When he walked he became their heels firmly on the ground. I remember once he told Bruce Lee, in my presence, it was not good to walk with your heels off the ground, a way of walking unmistakable in Bruce Lee movies. I later learned to walk with heels unsteadily in ground implies a short lifetime.
Unfortunately the Si Fu was sure that's what he said. Bruce Lee died when he was only 33 years old.

With both hands behind your body, SiFu informally stood in his left foot. He raised his right leg until your right knee was above his waist and the sole of your right foot facing the challenger. He gave the impression that he would stamp the opponent with the sole of his right foot.

The challenger was much younger, taller and heavier. In fighting stance he was used to being, raised his arms closing his fists tightly and got ready to attack. Its base was low, and he raised his chest.  was Zhu Mantis (Zhu Jia Tang Lang) It was really impressive standing there like that.

Si Fu threatened to kick with his right foot and the young move forward quickly crossing his forearms and tried to block the shot of SiFu. He had intended to interfere with the right of SiFu leg and push down. Soon he would launch forward and would punch up with the intention of attacking the throat of SiFu. Before his fists could reach right leg of SiFu, SiFu stamped his right foot abruptly and heavily, avoiding punches challenging and simultaneously triggered his left foot to stamp your left sole chest of the opponent sending him against the wall. The young challenger fell and lay on the ground with blood gushing from his mouth. SiFu asked us to take you up to the street corner and he returned to his cubicle. ''

* NT Duncan Leung became a private disciple , taking private lessons (Yap Sat Dai Gee) with Si Jo Yip Man at his residence, after a short period as a regular student of the school of Yip Man, like To Give (regular student)
