Wing Chun Fighting Drill; Bong/Lan Gurk

Let's look at this little video I made to publicize the classes at school where I am currently teaching:

Antes de vermos a técnica propriamente dita, deixe-me aclarar sobre o tipo de treinamento que levamos e que sim, faz parte do espírito e da forma essencial do estilo wing chun de nossa ramificação;

Before we see the technique itself, let me clarify about the type of training we lead and so is part of the spirit and essential form of the Wing Chun style of our branch;

First of all; All the techniques we use in training or in combat are aimed, first of all, the practical implementation as a starting conceptual idea and putting them in order situations '' real '' or, as Si Fu likes to refer; in 'conflict situations in uncontrolled environments''. These same techniques are drawn from the forms (Siu Nim Tau, Chum Kiu, Biu Ji, Moy Fah Jong) following an intrinsic logic to the system stratagem and put together will other bases and other movements, inherent also to the system and that alone can not be characterized as complete techniques, or the form itself - which is where the techniques comes in its original - are fragmented, so that the practitioner can 'mount' 'sequences, or envision application possibilities, will be from the direction of the Si Fu, will be from an insight, etc ... therefore, the same technique can have millions of variants and in that environment, is not very clear what is in fact an attack or a defense since the same motion can serve for both cases.

However, since with this in mind, in a fight, it is necessary that the practitioner always have to put the technique and not stand still waiting for her by itself produce the knockout ... it's good to have one or two tricks up its sleeve to continue you invested, since it put the desired technique, observing some strategic principles.

Second; Always repeatedly practice the same techniques for hours on end ... Why I say this? Taking advantage of the ballast that short video demonstration mine and the impact he made, obviously a lot of people criticized and many people spoke well. Those who criticized, said that when something is '' Combined, everything goes in perfect condition and the technique works well ... '' What these ignorant people do not know is that when we train these drills, the purpose is the technical accuracy. But still, who attacks, attacks in a realistic way . If you miss your movement, you'll take a punch or a kick in your face, so try not to miss !!! Who are applying the technique, will not achieve the fact partner. This is to train the instinct of self-preservation. Neurological stimulus will be like a '' snap '' where when you '' triggers '' technique, you will have to continue, no matter what happens! The drills are so called because they are tools will be worked and how in our family, we train all repeatedly, for hours and hours, day after day, we understand that the practice should be diligent enough so that everyone understands that training serves to improve the technique of both, both of whom attacks, such as who will perform the move, in order to internalize it as part of your second nature, placing it in his nervous system! Now that of course ... obviously in combat, you must hit indeed ... but that's the easy part; It is difficult not to get hit!

Third; Always train with boxeur gloves and protective equipment. Some or the same ignorant people  claim that these devices restrict the actual practice .... and bla bla bla ... on the street you will not have equipment, and bla bla bla ... belching a pseudo traditionalism .... Well, it is practice! In practice when it comes to the story is this: Or you train responsibly, or not trains. Not because a punch is delivered with a glove that punch did not go [to hurt; You can be sure it will hurt yes! Did I mention it here once; a football player always enters to play with all its standard in order, her shin guards, cleats, etc. and it is nevertheless to play with all their energy, gas etc ... and during training in CT, the football player will always be with its standard equipment in order as well ... that - among other things - even to prevent some more serious accident. And because then it would be different with Wing Chun? And while you can repeat a technique (some you can not even really) 10 times without the equipment, with the equipment you can repeat 100 times .... Si Fu told me several times the example of one of my older kung fu brothers, there a few years ago and I can not remember the name at the moment, where was training Siu Kwan Sau with another student and would not deliver the punches against forceful defense of his partner without the boxing gloves as a result; This Si-Hing broke a finger to punch the elbow of his training partner .... ie it is a matter of logic.
On the street, if you have to fight in any situation, as proof that their preventive strategy and attention have failed! And then I entered another matter ...

Tendo isto posto, vamos á técnica;

But back to the subject ... could not fail to mention here that in the case of this technique technique in particular, as said, we always start from the conceptual to the application taking in mind some peculiarities that adaptation, both sports, as the coming adaptation of evolution the way to fight suffered in recent decades, forces us, in a way, will review.

With this post, we will technique;

( Si Fu Gordon Lu Executando Bong/Lan Gurk)
(Si Fu Gordon Lu doing Bong / Lan Gurk)

Bong/Lan Gurk

Bong / Lan Gurk

This particular technique I love to practice. Was one of which I trained more in the last time that i was in Si Fu house and Mo Gwun to my regular training and in the meantime from there to here, I have had good opportunities to put it into practice in sparring. Generally I do not really like to tease out the variants and application possibilities, as this would be something like '' deliver the gold, '' but I will try here, tease the body mechanics for its implementation, which is already a lot, believe me...so come on ....

 Aprendendo o Kwan Sau

Learning 'Kwan Sau'

On the second level of the Wing Chun system, already used practitioner will perform some techniques,he will amplify this effect and will run two or three tasks simultaneously. Once one understands what is the Siu Nim Tau and what each movement of the form, we will Thereafter, work different movements that are apparently disparate and that when put together, will produce in particular technique.

Kwan Sau is what we call when we put a Tan Sau and Bong Sau together in a single movement. Almost every practitioner of Wing Chun knows what a Bong-Wu Sau. This position is very similar. In our branch. We will tend to put the Bong Sau going forward, as a first defense, with well positioned elbow and Tan Sau covering the flank, being a second defense in a posture slightly higher. To generate power and support, we use the swivel base (Joh or Chor - Mah) and and use the base, the hips and shoulders together. This technique can be clearly seen as well as the Muk Yan Jong (pillar wooden man).

( Si Jo Yip Man demonstrando Kwan Sau na forma do Muk Yan Jong)
(Si Jo Yip Man showing a 'Kwan Sau' on Muk Yan Jong form)

But the 'Kwan Sau' can not have a clear definition to use. That is, you can either attack with Kwan Sau, as can use to cover, or you can counter attack with .... how do you go and do use in this way it is subject for another post, but we specify in Kwan Sau using it the way It is employed as we observe this in specific technical ....

Fechando todo o lado do corpo

Closing the entire side of the body

Facing an opponent will rarely you will know what he'll do. Only that they will try to hit him in some way. So it is necessary that you anticipate your move with a counter-offensive movement. If you do it carelessly, you can get a knockout before anything else, as an experienced fighter will not telegraph anything for you and yes, it will only attack you in the proper distance and try to impose their game against you. ... so it's good to look first of all '' read '' the intentions of the opponent, I will make him come and go in his time to pick it up and work the principle of simultaneous defense and attack. Assuming that you are ready and prepare a strong opponent and heavy kick, you will not have many chances to be thinking hard before deciding what you will do. So the priority is always cover first ....

But the opponent will not tell you whether to kick high or low, is not it? If he decides to throw a kick, he'll have your ankle to your head as targets and if you try to '' catch '' his kick, or try any nonsense, will lead a sole in the face or chest or any other body part before his defense come to deflect the blow. So, once you decide to cover priority, it takes you to cover the entire flank of the chosen side.

(Note Kwan Sau closing the entire area; if my student Severino - who is a black belt in Shotokan Karate and attacks very strong - decided to change the angle of the shot, I would like to keep myself reasonably covered)

Understand; In Wing Chun, as a rule, we use your legs to defend the lower area and hands, the upper area of the body, as most often is taught, and it follows a logic. But since we do not know where the opponent will kick in and if we stop to try to guess, will be achieved before we can do anything - use Lan Gurk (stop with the leg) together with Kwan Sau, to close all over the body. If the opponent kick high,Kwan Sau will cover, if he kick down, the positioning of the leg will do the job, even if the hands are positioned the same way.
But if you lower - even a little - the Kwan Sau, thinking that the opponent will kick in any other target and along the way he changes the direction of the shot, believe me, you'll get hit over and will only realize after waking up from knockout

Extracting sustainability and strength

Once the opponent throw a kick, they are often heavy blows that do not always come when we are well positioned. Even if we can put the defense, by the strength of the opponent Shot impact we can rock going back or taking a few steps not to fall. Therefore, many Wing Chun practitioners when they do defend this type, get out of balance when things do not go as expected. In our family, as important as we launch coverage and close the side of the body, it is to do with our movement has sustainability and support enough not to go back. We do this by shocking the base leg  or the supporting leg on the ground, when we do Bong / Lan Gurk. There are some other details that case I mentioned here, would be too long. A more clinical look at the video and you will understand ....

Complementando....

Complementing ....

Once you can - at some point - stop the opponent's kick - and in this particular video case, I use actually Chaai Gurk (step on the opponent's leg) to intercept the shot from my training partner - is likely to continue its attack with some sleight of hand. However, we do not know how it will attack, and on our second movement, we will use some other cover to ensure that we are not affected and will hit with this coverage. In the video, I do Pak Da, taking 45 degrees to the side, escaping from the opponent's blow in a more or less safe angle. In the first movement, I do Tan Da, with a variation of a hook punch (see the second form - Chum Kiu). Even if the sleight of hand of the opponent does not come, you must make Pak, or Tan or any other technique to cover  the upper area, and should follow against attacking .... Remember, if you block and continue blocking going back, is not good strategically in combat and an hour, it will hit you. You will at some point move foward. Often you can once done Bong Gurk, go straight to the Li Wan Choy (Chase punches), running over the opponent, or out at 45 degrees, cover with Tan Sau and follow with Dung Gurk (front kick), how do in one of the variations which are possible.

(Note that the horse is set at 45 degrees to the angle against the opponent, picking up what we call '' outside Door '')

(Tan Da with punch in order to hook the ribs, as variation to advance, covering the upper area)

Strategically speaking, once you supplement with some other movement, it is necessary that in another situation that is not training, you can keep moving forward looking for the knockout or finish the fight as soon as possible ... to keep in shorter distance to keep attacking and generate power through the biomechanical principles governing the generator of basic strength of the Wing Chun system.

Previously, people when pre-had will go into a kung fu family - that when they were given and only after a formal presentation (by Kai Suy Yan) and after prior approval of Si Fu - were aware that this would entail a lot of responsibilities. Not only pro student, but also for the SiFu. Therefore, the Si-To respect it is largely emphasized as a very close relationship will father and son relationship.

Only in this case, especially in the old days, the Si Fu was who almost became the legal guardian for the education of the student, not only martial education, but even the individual's character formation. This, in turn, had the full knowledge that should life-saving not only the Kuen Sut (martial system), but also the ethical conduct involved in the experience and learning.

In Hong Kong the decades 50-60, Yip Man was responsible for the opening of the Wing Chun system for public education. People from various social classes appeared and speculated about the high amounts of money that the old master was receiving and / or charged by their lessons. The fact is that even when he was alive, many of which were to be future holders of style, already perceived - among other things - that in a few years would be necessary to organize institutions that could preserve the knowledge that was passed. Thus, the individual who had a reputation as a '' closer '' from '' student who learned the whole secret '', '' the disciple closed doors' 'or' 'who had better understanding of the system' 'would obviously have more prominence in the' 'market' '... Some did it early, others later ...

However, not everything in this universe which is the Wing Chun comes down will a market reserve for at least the past years. The Si Fu had to realize on its potential successor, the qualities that could make him a driver to save guard the past knowledge, as in previous generations up to that particular time.

The student in turn, would have to have attributes, qualities and characteristics for both. Hence the aphorism; '' It is very difficult for a student to find a good Si Fu, but it's harder still a Si Fu find a good student. '' If you look in the oral history of the system, the old patriarchs had very few students and reluctant to accept a beginner. ..

Nowadays, it's much easier to find a qualified Si Fu. Today we have internet, telephone, GPS and more a zillion applications, websites, addresses, all easily located on the network. Believe me, as you have not read this article, right now I can be talking to any avid enthusiast of style anywhere in the country and the world who wants lessons. However, still, it is very difficult to find a Si Fu honest, and equally difficult to Si Fu find a student who, over time, does not become a pretentious and thirsty face '' power '' and end up leaving the technical and the side of ethics, but I've already back at this point ...

Onde eu quero chegar é ; As pessoas devem ter a noção do quão importante é obter a real essencia do Wing Chun.

Where I'm getting at is; People should have an understanding of how important it is to get the real essence of Wing Chun. Not by simply believing that one can, after years of experience in some other kind of martial system, find or guess, who can understand what is actually learn, practice and develop the real spirit of the system Wing Chun, its principles, concepts, movements , etc, etc ...

Some people completely lose discretion when it comes to accepting a student, seeking only money .... So giving a practical example, when someone comes to me, either in social networks that is personally willing to '' learn Wing Chun '' the first thing I ask is; - '' What for you want to learn? ''. I am not surprised when the person does not even know how to answer, and soon after, explain; - '' You can find somebody so, will give you all the answers, teach what you WANT to learn, but that may not necessarily be what we really art is or means. You can try to investigate before, researching before, but if you come train with me, the only thing I can guarantee is that will not be easy! ''

So I said in the previous article, Wing Chun is not such a charm that people think it is. No one, I say and I repeat, no one can say he learned Wing Chun without a coexistence with Si Fu, in some kind of degree. This is not of representativeness to be the owner of '' flag '', '' shirt '', '' association '' or something like that and yes, a matter of learning law, to practice an art with substance and where you You can really investigate in a team line as it reached you through the masters; I've already talked it here on the blog once - a guy who trains Long Quan, for example, even with years of experience can never understand another kung fu style just by mastering a style, however it has mastery. Or a guy master of Wing Chun, if not practice another style, you can never say that understands that other art. If so, we would have doctors in every corner, but with no formal academic training, it would be not necessary to study medicine for that, you know?
Obtain the understanding of the Wing Chun system requires specific studies, a lot of training, sweat, tears, blood and over a range of sacrifices and difficult personal choices to make ....

And these personal sacrifices involved and all the pressure that exists is really intense .... How many people who call themselves masters - without ever having trained before or after - with a recognized master and yet criticize those who follow a school, lineage , branch, clan .... etc ....? And you have to live with it ???

But anyway ...

Back to the subject; It is necessary to have this kind of notion, because, in fact, get the essence of martial art is not for everyone and not everyone can. An article by Sibaakgung Allan C. Lee, last formal disciple of Yip Man, list, very intelligently, a number of criteria for someone to truly become a disciple and get what he calls the '' essence '' - and my Si Fu calls '' finese '' - the martial art and here I enclose saying; Ask yourself if you can really do this ...:.

'Due to its scientific approach, Wing Chun became a style that emphasizes the particular practical application for real life. Proper training and diligent practice in Wing Chun can provide combat capability applicable in a relatively short period of time. It is this skill that made extremely famous Wing Chun in the martial arts field.

However, the martial arts are definitely not for everyone and even fewer people are able to grow it. There are several criteria one must first fulfill in order to truly get the art of Wing Chun. Some of the most important are:

1. DESTINATION: You must be lucky enough to find a SiFu able to pass the knowledge to you.

2. THE RIGHT SIFU: Your SiFu should be able to apply Wing Chun in real fighting. For example, how can you trust someone to teach him to swim if that person has never tried to swim BEFORE? Your SiFu must also be willing to teach you wholeheartedly and unreservedly.

 3. PASSION: To be truly great at anything, you must first love what you do. You may want to truly get Wing Chun, to sacrifice so much time, money and effort.

Tudo isto requer dinheiro.

 4. ADEQUATE FINANCE: Obviously, you should at least be able to pay some kind of tuition for the opportunity to learn. But the most important point of this criterion is that you should not have to worry about money if you are to devote themselves to Wing Chun. How can train seriously in anything if you should care about even how to put food on your table or keeping a roof over your head? There is also the issue of equipment and a place to train. All this requires money.

 5. TIME: This criterion is closely linked with sufficient financial resources should you have the luxury of time to train seriously. It takes several hours of daily training appropriate to achieve the ability to apply Wing Chun in real fighting.

6. Perseverance: The way to really get Wing Chun is full of pain, difficulties, obstacles, and other unforeseen circumstances. You must have the mindset to face and overcome these challenges. If you give up because of discomfort or injury, or if you can not sacrifice socializing and leisure time, you'll never make it.

7. TRAINING PARTNERS: You must have access to a large number of training partners. That's why you should learn to apply Wing Chun, so that it will work against any opponent. It is also imperative that these training partners are willing to help you.

8. APPLICATION: Because Wing Chun is an art of combat, it is necessary to apply art in real fights. You can read everything there is to know about swimming and practicing the moves diligently in the air, but unless you actually enter the water and try to swim, you may well drown the first time you try. It is therefore necessary that you always ask yourself if you really have and are able to apply Wing Chun in a real fight. The definition of a real fight is not necessarily one that involves defending your life. A friendly sparring or competitions that are well regulated can also be considered as such. That's because you have no idea what the opponent will do. The only thing we know is that your opponent will try to attack him.

9. AMBITION: You must have the ambition to always get more. The only way to make progress is a style that each new generation tries to outdo the previous generation. It is true that the next generation may not always be able to overcome the latter, but at least the style and art can be preserved.

10. LOYALTY: The quest for knowledge is an endless journey. As such, the desire to gain knowledge should never be lost or there is a possibility that knowledge can disappear completely. In order to really get Wing Chun, you should dedicate your whole life to art. His love for his art and style should never wavering, for now rests on your shoulders to educate and enlighten the next generation as their SiFu has educated and how he trained. '

Em breve mais uma postagem técnica...

That's all folks!

O que o Wing Chun não é - parte 1

What Wing Chun is not - part 1

Sometimes I avoid writing something that is a more fierce criticism on my own martial art. This for the simple fact that I really love coaching Wing Chun seriously and have so much fun - despite all the focus, pressure and sacrifice that it demands - simply by being with my SiFu and my kung fu brothers sharing training times embattled and life, catching and hitting together ... or with my own students, laughing, training hard, it ends up being something really cool. It is always a path of personal and spiritual growth, or at least believe to be, and every kind of lesson I can draw from the technique itself, the experiences and the experience to experience this learning with these people, will reflect on my everyday life, with the deal that will have with people in all areas of extension of my life and conduct as a man, as participative human being on this planet, even if I even understand what my role here ....

Anyway, sometimes I end up not holding me with certain things that I see, or that show, whatever me, and as I am a person relatively known in the martial community with specificity in wing chun, I asked you to take doubt avid enthusiasts system wing Chun and who are even beginners. Why, this surprises me greatly, since I myself have committed many misinterpretations about some aspects of the system and without any attempt to pass a false modesty, I am still not enabled not consider myself the best person to speak on behalf of my kung fu family or style name in sí. I believe there are many people out there who do not write on blogs but are extremely competent and that could well speak more properly. But the case is that I have avoided writing driest texts just to not pass a false idea that I'm a guy who hates what he does. That's not it....

However, I prefer to speak the truth; Wing Chun Kung Fu is not such a charm people think! Recently, a person wrote in my timeline on a social network something like; '' The brutal martial art, most effective of all ... and bla bla bla ... a martial art science with their subjective and complex theories and bla bla bla ..... '' and I totally disagree with that kind of comment. I think so unnecessary as that breakfast roadside inn ... it's the kind of thing that comes close to piss me off actually. That's because the guy who does not understand Wing Chun, okay, can have an informed opinion on the perceptions of incoming information will it ... but when the guy is already practicing? So that comes I call the '' intellectual Fighter tavern ''. Ie the guy who theorizes all that to put all calculations ... but in the end does not have the experience of struggle that should have to show you some system truths, or simply ignores the fact that you are talking about a fighting art. Yes, theory is the most important part of the system, but more than understanding, we must go on the practical application and it is too hard to do.

But despite everything, I try to explain to you dear reader, why I strongly disagree that kind of comment and my standing behind certain things and hope you can open the dialogue to the various points of view ... stay feel free to comment...

Wing Chun; The most effective martial art that exists ....

No, it's not. I'm sorry. For a long time, this was the slogan of wing chun sales in Brazil and was popularized by newcomers pioneering masters here, eager for money and yes, tried to stand up with a style that was not really popular and he had no visual appeal of other kung fu styles, plus a whole existing problems and that is a subject very long will be placed here. The advantage there was that the wing chun had been linked to the image of Bruce Lee and this of course made all the difference at the time of propaganda, as does today ... if it was Bruce Lee Bruce Lee had learned wing chun, why not do as well? But that does not mean that the technique is effective and was not even guarantee it ....

If it is not the most efficient martial art, which Wing Chun is it?

Just a martial art, among so many others that has its specificity, its peculiarities, which suffered cultural influences during its development in the past and today is spread all over the world in various aspects. However, Wing Chun is a martial art that does not have great attributes in order to give answer to every fight problems like a divine insight, but is actually a differential in its conceptual structure that is unusual or at less is not commonly seen in other styles. No more, no less.

And what's so brutal in the system Wing Chun?

If you pay close attention, Wing Chun in its original does not have ground fighting, it has no fancy moves, not much different from common attacks will other Chinese styles and perhaps your arsenal is even more restricted than other Chinese martial arts, is comparing. However, in my opinion, what's really most brutal - to violence even - in the system Wing Chun are the weapons. Historically, it is common sense that the struggles of handsfree influenced or came directly from armed struggle and not vice versa. So if there is something that can really be 'brutal' '(not to flee the term used by the friend who posted), are the weapons, bat six and a half points and the double knives ....

Dumb practice or theory without action?

Understanding the reasons why you perform an exercise or a drill in wing chun is the most important part. However, this is not enough. For practice is extremely important. However, practice without understanding the 'whys'' is also nothing productive ....
It is important to keep in mind that certain situations in practice are unexpected and however much you train everything in theory, nothing, nowhere, a combat situation, street or a real situation will be similar to what you trained. Jargon that we use here in Salvador, in the school of my SiFu when we discuss some everyday situations is that '' in practice the theory is different '' .... What better example than the actual practice of Chi Sau? Chi sau has a definite purpose. It has a purpose. However, if you are challenged by a karate fighter, or Aikido, or even Muay Thay, it will propose a challenge of Chi Sau with it by chance? Nobody fights like you do Chi Sau ... the same way, not good also ignore the value of their training. Chi Sau is essential in wing chun, but does not solve all combat problems. As only know the central line concept will not give you a major advantage over a well-trained opponent, unless you can understand what is to remain in the shortest distance to be able to attack, or know how to exploit the '' blind spots '' of opponent . And even then, you can not always do this ....

                                                            A Arte subjetiva???

No WIng Chun é a mesma coisa.

                                                                 Subjective Art ???

Wing Chun is an art. Making a comparison with the painting, for example, in this branch of art it is assumed that also takes into account the individual artist expression. Since an artistic expression might resemble the expression of another person, the features and characteristics will never be equal although a particular technique may be used. In WIng Chun is the same. Yip Man taught only one Wing Chun, but his disciples put their own perspectives and experiences it. And even being an art where you can place your way, which makes the Wing Chun that point an extremely interesting art is that you can understand it in the light of staffing some master perspective, or his Si Fu, Si Dai or any member of your family and you will always have its own expression, however much you try to get your technique is similar to the technique of some guy you admire.
His concepts are basically the cornerstone of the system, but only if you put them into practice ... is there some kind of subjectivity in wing chun, that must be it ... However, often the older masters also make their mixtures ... a case in point; recently a friend of another country pointed to a line X as a 'mixture of Hung Kune and Wing Chun' 'but the slogan is; '' Wing Chun Yip Man '' ... of course, it all ends up on the basis of opinion ... the truth is that nobody knows for sure ....

                                            Institutions and associations

Someone posted the other day a beautiful text on about on a forum. For the martial artist in fact, it is a matter of honor and personal commitment, will not wonder, the motto of our school itself is '' RESPECT TO BE RESPECTED '', and this by itself says a lot ..... But let's be honest ... in Brazil, we know this rarely happens. Despite the acidic answer I gave in that forum, I believe that only a small part of the Kung Fu family of leading practitioners - and here I am not even mentioning the Wing Chun in particular - have a sense of what is honesty and consistency.
The problem happens when the thing goes up and will head to college, lineage, flag, or whatever it is, becomes the epitome, the colombo egg; That is, there never will be no better or no other best martial art that his .... and there is the danger lies .... While other lineages and other people actually respect each other, knowing that Art has its own strengths and weaknesses, others are blind and respect goes to drain .... do not take this as a setback in combat happens ... when a fight .... yes, most of these people there even fight indeed...

But back to the caption ... I have a certain wary of institutions and associations in general - in fact, always had - and I explain why .... before that, let me clarify a point; Genealogy and lineage has nothing to do with this sort of thing. Genealogy is important. The past can not be erased and by more than one person is not connected will an organization that does not disqualify in any way. The problem is when this person will NEVER been linked nothing, as we mentioned here several times, or when it comes to pure lie, fallacy or invention blatant .... I have interviewed dissidents of various lineages right here on the blog that have a work ethic and yet, I maintain good contact with leaders of the clans will which dissidents referred that one day, once part ... that is, that's respect! When I realize that a person is said coming from a kung fu family, without ever having passed the door of a school and not being an honest person, just wanting to focus, we cancel the interview or at best, do not give chance.
However, the problem here in Brazil .... especially here in Brazil itself, (but I suspect it happens all over the place, see the case of HKB) you can find all these federations, associations, institutions, whatever .. .quer an example? Look at the picture below there ...

This guy in the picture is a fucking fake and liar ... the famous mental level face 1.5124.5320 ... what the fuck, man? ... The guy has Mental Dan ....MENTAL DAN!! GOD, GIVE ME PATIENCE!!!! Can you understand this !!! ???? But, this guy is connected to the one recognized federation. They understand children? What is the criteria that these bodies have? Cash and carry what you want? It is the kind of thing that deserves respect and that calls for respect? If you make a giant effort to go to the source to train seriously and invests suffers, picks ..... you will have to deal with this sort of thing? People not even respect the training, will respect others ???

I could go on for hours about this, but in part two, I intend to continue it, this time addressing the positive side of all this and what a person must have to be a true practitioner of Wing Chun ....

Lap Sau in fighting technique; conceptualization and practical application

One of the most famous training in Wing Chun, not to mention Chi Sau, is what we call Lap Sau (臘 手). Perhaps even more famous than Chi Sau, since their training mode is quite famous, appearing in several kung fu movies where such training is required ...

Lap Sau is the set of two ideograms; Lap (臘), which has a well-defined translation of the Latin languages, but it can be convenient and more simplistically translated as '' pull ''. '' Sau '' (手), as we have seen here, can be placed as' Arm '', referring to the upper limbs.

(Two practitioners doing Lap Sau; Notice the first and second defense of who is doing Bong / Wu Sau)

The regular 'Lap Sau', which I refining at the beginning of this article, is an exercise in which we use largely two saves; Bong Sau (膀 手) and Wu Sau (護 手) and only one type of attack, regular punch that we see from the first day of training. However, Lap Sau is a very interesting tool to practice because the remove of the opponent's hand and hitting, or the '' sham '' attack with a position where we defend, at the same way we take one too offensive positioning through elbow position, gives us the sense of being mindful at all times ans stay tuned, both in our own positioning, as the training partner positioning, offensively  defending  or defensively attacking at the same time. as Si Fu always  say;  ''it's more a mental exercise.''

Interestingly, this type of training is that it differs very little with the same purpose of Chi Sau; Although its '' shape '' is completely different and during practice, Lap Sau will can be taken become Luk Sau (碌 手) (know as more familiar pattern of Chi Sau, in some families) that is, in our family wing Chun, the most important point is to learn to cover the exposed areas before our training partner to realize our technical failure and beat us, anticipating will he and attacking opening or failure of it first, Lap Sau, as well as other techniques of Wing Chun, can be put to use in sparring or free fighting , following some principles.

First of all, in wing chun, we work over their techniques, the 'push and pull' '. Pak Sau (拍手) is one example; In some techniques Pak Sau, it by will a pressing shortage of space that does not allow us to follow with a step in triangulation and escape the opponent's punch with a Pak Da to cover the flank, we follow forward nullifying the opponent's attack and pushing it before your move is complete (the second pak sau in the siu lin tau form). The Lap Sau is the pull.
When we have a chance to capture the opponent's arm and pulling him toward our punch, add more power to our attack with the opponent coming against purposefully toward our attack, using well, what we call the impact force. Make the opponent to come towards our attack, deliberately, it is a premise for us to enhance our attack and cause the most damage.
On a more intermediate level, we can find simple solutions in the middle, or turning our Bong Sau in Lan (bar 攔) Sau (手) and attack from below, or using simple arm locks to stop the opponent.

The first type and the most rudimentary form of Lap Sau appears even when running exercise Dan Chi Sau (单 黐 手), or the exercise of 'Chi Sau' simple, one-handed, when we remove the Bong sau of the opponent using the same hand that we punch earlier, causing him to change the reference forcibly. The pull down, in order to remove the partner's hand is Lap Sau a way that exemplifies the same condition and Chi Sau the same purpose; create the opening and hitting, or to the other side, cover, closing the gap created by intercepting the opponent's attack before it comes (Kun Wai, Cover, in English). This explains the closeness of principles of the 'Lap Sau' 'with Chi Sau.

 Ao longo do treinamento, os benefícios poderão ser percebidos, através dos desdobramentos das técnicas ao longo da vivência dos domínios do sistema . Um exemplo de alguns desdobramentos do treinamento conceitual do lap Sau podem ser visto no video abaixo;

The nomenclature also changes according to the application together with a fist or palm, like a Pak Sau, which becomes Pak Da. Lap Sau, with a strike together, is called Lap Da (Da = hit).

At this point, it is apparent that a sparring partner to practice this type of exercise is sorely needed. This type of reaction which will train on Lap Sau is virtually impossible to play alone, and as it should be, è extremely strenuous and tiring work of '' cycle '' of Lap Sau in its conceptual exercise.

  Throughout the training, the benefits can be realized through the developments of the techniques through the experience of system domains. An example of some of the conceptual developments Training Sau lap can be seen in the video below;

Saindo do conceito, para a pratica
Leaving the concept to practice

De fato, seria por demais ingênuo acreditar que poderíamos aplicar o Lap Sau em combate livre de acordo com a exata forma com a qual o praticamos. È necessário ter a sensibilidade de perceber que determinados exercícios são um meio de se chegar á uma lógica que está ''por trás'' da prática em sí. Ou seja, é importante ter a consciência de que um exercício conceitual deve ser ''adaptado'' para determinadas situações. Mas essa ''adaptação'' não foge da lógica do sistema. Para exemplificar, pensemos na seguinte situação;

But until then, it does not mean that we can apply Lap Sau in a free combat. A practitioner of wing chun can be good on Lap Sau or Chi Sau, and may not be a good fighter and vice versa.

Indeed, it would be too naive to believe that we could apply the Lap Sau in free fighting according to the exact way in which the practice. It is necessary to have the sensitivity to realize that certain exercises are a way to get you a logic that is '' behind '' of the practice. In other words, it is important to be aware that a conceptual exercise should be '' adapted '' to certain situations. But this '' adaptation '' does not escape the system logic. To illustrate, consider the following situation;

A) You managed to escape from a jab your opponent using Ganh Sau, covering an entire side of his body, or using any other technique, whatever. Until then, fine. Once you've covered one whole side, the opposite side will also be open, since you did a spin to close and gave the necessary distance to not be adjusted by moving the base away. WIng Chun is like a piece of wood floating in the water; If one end to sink in water, will emerge from the other end and vice versa. If you can close an entire side of the body, it is better to be trained enough to close the side that was exposed before the opponent can move forward. And it will not always be frank enough to do this without a decoy before ... so keep this in mind; If you closed one hand, run to close the other and fight back together!

B) Since opponent made the first attack, he is likely to continue following with a straight punch. If you wait to see this punch, or get this punch, it is likely that in the middle of the action, the opponent can hit you with either punch or kick, it does not matter. At this point, and will then, you only have one thing will do; cover the side that was exposed as soon as possible and strike a blow before the opponent does. The Lap Sau, in this case, can be used to 'clean up' the entire area and act together with a counter-coup, will sample photo below:

( Este praticante aplica Lap Da durante a pratica deste Drill com Sibaakgung Josh Shaw)
(This guy applies 'Lap Da' during practice this drill with Sibaakgung Josh Shaw)

Speaking of strategy, since you can pull the opponent's arm in a hypothetical situation, you need to give continuation and not wait to see what the opponent will do, even within so short. Since once you hit a blow - and fighting is a game of patience - as you apply a good blow, it alone will be not enough to knock out a well-trained opponent. The famous '' Mercy Hit '' or '' death with a single shot, '' it is only when you no longer have sufficient stamina to continue the fight and the opponent is easily impressed. A cold fighter, even after having his arm pulled and getting hit with a good blow, if not fall, he will not give you chance to do it again.

It is rather funny to see that some fighters of Wing Chun said to shorten the distance, feel comfortable in maintaining the fight, but what happens when they get too close too? It is likely to take the distance shortened by his own Lap Sau and take the fight to another situation where normally the Wing Chun fighter wraps: the fight on the ground. Without a focused training for this kind of situation in particular, the wing chun practitioner turns fish out of water ...

Therefore, Si Fu has developed practical solutions with Chi Sau Lap sau training for MMA fighters, taking advantage of exactly this ballast between the ground game itself and the striking standing.

As we can see, Lap Sau has numerous possibilities for application, just by some simple observations beginning in the very Wing Chun system.
Not to let this very long article. I suggest you send questions, comments and suggestions to aldarylucena@hotmail.com and as far as I can, I will answer promptly.

See You Later.

Blog do Dido recomenda: Wing Chun martial arts ;Principles and Techniques
