Especial Entrevistas ( Reeditado); Si Fu Augusto Carvalho - Interview with SiFu Augusto Carvalho

In this particular post, today we bring to reprint granted the interview to '' Blog do Dido '' by one of the masters of Wing Chn in Brazil: Si Fu Augusto Carvalho. We hope you enjoy ...

This interview was already to have happened will over time, but due to lack of good standing with the Blog - among other things - had only now timely to edit the texts.
And it is with great honor that this month, our interviewee is prof. Augusto Carvalho.
Professor Augusto Carvalho is a well-known figure within the wing chun national communities and their dedication to art is really inspiring. In this conversation by e-mail, could I make some issues - some very controversial - where we can understand a little more about your vision and interpretation of the Wing Chun style and his current branch.

Well, without further ado, let the interview!

Blog Dido - Mr. tell us how was your first contact with the ving tsun? Mr. already practiced in other lineages and as Mr. met her current sifu?

Sifu Augusto - I am aware of Wing Chun through articles on Bruce Lee, published in the 1970s started the practice in 1993. I went through two different lines and a lot of research and experience with other practitioners to meet my sifu. I was introduced to Sam Hing Fai Chan, for my brothers Kung Fu, Nilson and Marcio. The Family Sam Chan began working in Brazil in 2008. Today, we have four Sifu in Brazil: Augusto, Yakko, and Marcio Nilson.
Briefly's it. What I can add is that my involvement with martial arts is not limited to Wing Chun. And my start was given in 1976. I went through various experiences until the present moment where I teach: Wing Chun, Jow Ga, Tai Chi Chuan. In addition to practicing karate (brown belt) and Jeet Kune Do.

Blog Dido - I wish Mr. comment on what are the main features both philosophical, as its current line techniques.

Sifu Augusto - My master used to say that we form good citizens. Then martial element is just a carrier therefor. The practice of exercise routines and interaction with Sifu, will lead to formation of good conduct for life. I teach how to deal with everyday conflicts beyond mere hand combat techniques the body.
When someone asks me, "teaches you to fight?" Or "your Wing Chun works in combat efficiently" I always answer with another question. I wonder why the person wants to learn how to fight? You are military, cop, security, etc. I make the person stop and think first, the reason for wanting to learn a martial art. What are your motivations. This first conversation is already a class.
In short, our lineage advocates a martial practice at a time without war, where the enemy is our ego (centrism). We must free ourselves from the desire of violence. The martial practice helps us to have discipline and master aggressiveness. We are in the 21st century and not in Brazil in revolutionary China of past centuries.
I am following the Sifu Sam Chan, following his Sifu Ip Ching, who learned from his father; Sifu Ip Kai Man. I'm trying to teach here in Brazil a family culture. Of people who have seen war and seek peace. Our Wing Chun is simple, straightforward and objective, as I like to point out ever ..
In MMA times, people confuse objectives. They think that everyone should be gladiators of the 21st century we have to understand that there is difference between martial art, self defense, combat sport, etc. Each branch has its specific purpose. And even within the same follow-up, you will find diverse proposals. For me, all are valid.
The martial art was created by humans for humans and not vice versa. So the most important is the human being.

Sifu Augusto Carvalho - Pergunta complexa.
Minha saída é me relacionar com quem pensa igual a mim.

Blog Dido - The Ving Tsun is an art traditionally transmitted through the kung fu families, or clans, being different in styles, where many of them self-claim
authentic, real, closest to the root, or original, etc, etc, causing a major disagreement between them. Mr. believes that there could be a 'unification' - so to speak
- Among these organizations is possible to reach a consensus in this regard and in your opinion, what are the main reasons why there is so much disagreement among families
ving tsun, there is a way out of this?

Sifu Augusto Carvalho - Question complex. Being objective, I believe the reason is selfish and do not see a way out of this impasse, at least for now.
But would like to make some comments here to expose my point of view the question.
Let's face it. Currently there are several types of Wing Chun. There, said traditionalists, the avant-garde, the mixed, the invented, and so on. Not all follow (as you said) traditions. This generates many glaring differences. And is involved there, financial interests, for fame, power, and few more things. I am also a psychoanalyst and as such I analyze the source of all this, the old question of each want to be the highlight among all. The best self-centeredness saying. Or, I would say ignorance, immaturity. But all this already existed in ancient China, it is not our creation. It is the general characteristic of beings evolving process. So the practice of martial arts requires a hard learning. And the result is the concept of Kung Fu, I usually translated as excellence.
In particular, do not believe in disputes. I think there is room for everyone. Each disclosing their ideas and who will follow. No need to convince everyone. This is nonsense!
Again, I see no way out. My way out is to relate to those who think like me. Which considers disputes a big silly and would rather be happy in harmony with others. Who does not agree with me I do not argue. Or who want to convince me of its truth I just listen and appreciate.
For my part, I am always open to hear and see. But if you fail me with the respect I ignore and continue my way.
I would love to see the people united. But I see it today as utopia.

Blog Dido - nowadays it is very easy to achieve, books, DVDs, e-books on Wing Chun online and many people say they are practicing wing chun only be studying
such material.contudo in the ving tsun, one of the most important aspects in the development of art is the sifu-todai relationship that propcia even a character improvement
and the sense of mo duk (martial virtue). Mr. You think pro practitioner, studying the ving tsun only in this way, would be a valid way?

A Professora Maria Antonieta Fernandes, grande amiga a quem rendo aqui homenagem.
Eu me “atirei na água”.
Bem, respondendo a questão inicial.

Sifu Augusto Carvalho - I do not approve, but not critical. I think sometimes a little is better than nothing.
I remember at the beginning of my search I was only articles in international journals, and the material on Bruce Lee that a friend translated for me. Then some national materials and Marco Natali books. Until I could actually train with Sifu.
I did not learn much from those sources of information. But it was useful to meet my initial curiosity and better understand my Sifu. When I started to follow their own path for about two years, I have collected a lot of material in books, videos and materials stemmed from several sources. As it was no longer a layman, much easier to understand certain information.
But only when I again touch with other teachers and finally my Master Sam Chan could I evolve. Ie really experience the Wing Chun.
In short, alternative methods can help. But are not complete. Learn and master Wing Chun indirectly is impossible for me. But do not criticize those who do. Because I do not know what the purpose of that person. Maybe she lives in the middle of the Amazon jungle and just want to have a little knowledge about something she likes. I would only critical to this person if she wanted to teach others with this type of learning. But still, I do not like to get involved with the third-party choices. Each one building their own karma. And action generates reaction.

Blog Dido - Mr. Could you give us more details on how mr. carries out its work of Jeet Kune Do? How do you. He came into contact with this art and as has been conducting its transmission?

Sifu Augusto Carvalho - This is a topic more polêmico.Vou start with the second point of the question and concluded with the initial question.
My contact with Bruce Lee, was through the television series "The Green Hornet" passing on Brazilian TV as Green Hornet. Maybe someone be surprised that I have attended this show. But I am a man about to turn 49 years on April 25 this year. So I have lived something.
With the untimely death of Master Bruce Lee, the martial arts world turned into a live volcano. Several publications have emerged, Fan Club around the world, followers, etc. So I started to read everything that talked about Bruce Lee to know one of the people who wrote for several national magazines on the subject. Professor Maria Antonieta Fernandes, a great friend who surrender tribute here. Antoinette is a singular figure, helping much, people like Marco Natali and Leo Imamura in everything that concerns the "Universe Bruce Lee and JKD." Besides me, of course.
By Antoinette I had access to information that she could with people as Linda Lee and Dan Inosanto, for example. At a time when there was no Internet, everything was by the same letters. I had access to works now exhausted and exclusive interviews. Beyond what was published. I kept in touch also with many Fan Club and other researchers in Brazil.
These sources were the means for me to try to understand the theoretical knowledge of JKD. The practice, followed the advice of Master Lee. I "shot in the water." I was a teenager gave the guy to beat. From thirteen to twenty years or so, I faced many opponents to test myself. But as there was no kung fu masters in my town I trained with friends, from the most diverse arts. Soon I was the coordinator of the group and then instructor. In 1990 I developed my own version of JKD.
But when I started in Wing Chun left side of this work, and dive in to understand Wing Chun. Only around 2006, with the greatest knowledge of Wing Chun is that I turned again to the JKD and found several "teachers" teaching there. I tried to contact some of them, but I found that most was just trying to make a mixture of various techniques. And everyone I was the owner of JKD. After contacting several former students (direct) Bruce Lee intended to train with one of them, I decided to put together a group of JKD studies. Because I felt that my years of research and practice could help many people.
Well, answering the initial question. How do I do that?
First I want to make it clear that not teaching Jeet Kune Do. The purpose of our group is to study the foundations left by Bruce Lee and try to apply them in our current reality. Ie not imitate Bruce Lee. For I am not a fan of Bruce Lee. But a student of his art and his life. His legacy. Even by the pure JKD died with Bruce. We can draw on his work, but never imitate his way of expressing. Everyone has to find his own.
Another point: what is the goal also is to create a strong group. And with that we make contact with people who have had direct training with Bruce or former students of it. And a person who has helped me a lot is my brother Kung Fu, Sifu Yakko Sideratos that is linked to school Jerry Poteet. Having gone to train in the United States directly with this line of JKD.
Unfortunately the person I admired most after Bruce died recently. It was Sifu Ted Wong. It trained in recent years with only Bruce JKD. And Ted Wong had never practiced other martial art. So I had no other influences. Your JKD was simple, pure.
But life goes on and we'll go ahead and say the Master Bruce Lee.
I intend to continue exchanges with other instructors and soon we will have many new features for the JKD interested in Brazil.

Blog Dido - A question quite common; Jeet Kune Do and Wing Chun are the same thing?

Sifu Augusto Carvalho - Yes and no! Wing Chun Kuen is a Chinese traditional martial art. Jeet Kune Do is the result of life experience of a former Wing Chun practitioner who embarked on other paths in search of total combat effectiveness. Moreover, Jeet without the basis of Wing Chun Kuen not exist. Here we have a decent paradox of martial arts from the Far East. Everything depends on the point of view of the analyzes.

Blog Dido - would like to thank immensely for your attention and I wish Mr. let your end considerations as well as your contacts, for those who want to know more and
deeper.

Sifu Augusto Carvalho - I would also like to thank his friend for the opportunity of this interview. I fervently hope that you continue to grow in Wing Chun with his SiFu, the SiFu Marcos Abreu, whom I greatly admire.
My final message to the readers of this blog is to think for themselves. Choose your Sifu not because he is famous is Chinese, is intellectual, it's good to fight, it's marketer, is talkative, it's great storyteller, etc, etc ... to choose their Sifu affinity with his person. See if in fact you and your Sifu can walk together for many years. Try, question, think, reflect and decide. If you feel you could call his father Sifu, then go ahead. But never allow anyone wants to dominate and enslave you. A Sifu, only points the way forward. Shares with you the experience. But it is never the owner of the truth.

If someone wants me to know more about our work, please write me at e-mail: carvalho.augusto@gmail.com or by Phone (11) 8284-7818

As espadas de Lampião e o termo ''Si Fu''

The Swords of Lampião and the term '' Si Fu ''

I was recently in the state's hinterland visiting the city of Triunfo, known as the Mecca of northeastern bandits, along with the city of  'Serra Talhada', which is a few kilometers away.
And there Triunfo, I could see some weapons used by one who is one of the most controversial figures of the northeastern legendary, '' Virgulino Ferreira '', aka Lampião.

( As armas de fogo da época)
(The firearms of the time)

Among various artifacts, photographs and historical documents obviously what caught my attention were the firearms, daggers and swords (yes, although the tour guide assign the term 'sickle' or 'machete', many sometimes the disposal of the size of the blade, an even more remembered sword). Among some of these specimens, some reminded me a lot of the HUDIEDAO - that gave rise to Pa Tou Chan Wing Chun, (you see here), despite not having custody of fist but by the size, shape, thickness etc ... And Thus any resemblance, I wonder, inside the museum, like those guys could build and how those weapons used in those days in such a harsh environment.

( Armas utilizadas por Lampião nos anos 30)
(Weapons used by Lampião in the 30s)

However, this visit to the museum of the city, one of the guides insisted on calling me '' sir '', whenever we wanted to impress me some historical detail, or give any more precise information on how were brave the bandits, their works, whether they were '' bad guys or good guys '' and as I am a proud man, I always answered smiling; - '' Can call me 'you', even ... '', or something like; - '' I have not yet old enough to be called Sir, relax man ... '', after all, with only 33 years, yet I feel a young man, not a old man, perhaps even a young, but anyway ... And whenever he came to me, was always using that term ..- '' please sir, please note that .... any questions, sir ??? '', always respectfully ...

The point is that in some situations, I've seen happen a few times where vistei other schools, especially with new arrivals on their first lessons, beginners as it were, to address the instructor or even someone older in kung fu family using the term Sensei (yes, Sensei !!!), with all that respect given to them .... that would be no problem if we were in an environment where art and culture discussed, trained and developed to be Japanese. As we are in an environment where we study the Chinese martial arts, in particular the Wing Chun, I always saw the instructors respectfully correcting these newcomers with - '' You can call me Si Hing (older brother) or Si-Fu (Master -'dad' is one of translations)''...

Myself, the many people who trained with me over time, some call me Si-Hing, other Si Fu ... and just as I felt a troubled much with that man guide there in the museum, still feel more comfortable when my students call me Si-Hing, although some insist on calling me Si Fu.
The term Si Fu (Master-father) remote the one in which 'teaches as a parent' '. In martial environments, it is the term for one who is the leader of kung fu family, like as was the father in the Chinese family relationships. It can be seen there, a much closer relationship than just the relationship '' teacher - student '' or even '' supplier - customer

In Wing Chun, that someone else guide and teaches in the art, can be considered '' Si Fu '', since the same term can also be used to indicate that person who has expertise in a particular activity or craft and will teach another person. A carpenter, a plumber or a receptionist if you have to teach someone else how is your work, your day will day in your professional environment, it becomes a 'sifu' of this other person.
Ethically speaking, the term '' Si Fu '' is not a self-imposed term. Much less depends on the person's age. I know some SI Fus that would be the age of the children of their students and vice versa. But the important point here is; No one calls itself 'Si Fu', for more training time you have. It is not a question of whether to place as such, but to obtain, through the other, recognition as such.

The same thing can be attributed to the term Si-Hing, that is what defines the '' Big brother '', or the one who came to school well before you. This, in turn, is a student of his Si Fu who may be younger in age, however, has much more skill and more living experience within the Mo Gwun and his associates recognize that. Paradoxically, his Si-Hing is also the Si Dai (younger brother) to someone in the kung fu family and since this Si-Hing has students, they can call on SiFu, given the respect to such ... .
Although causes me strangeness when someone calls me Si Fu, regardless of my technical ability or because I am responsible for art education for these students, yet even play using the most appropriate term for treatment, some insist on using the '' Si Fu '', as they recognize that. I still can not get used to it, anyway ...

Not wanting to give me any kind of false modesty, and SiFu know how much I was reluctant to have students in the first years of practice, I consider myself a younger brother to all in the Mo Gwun in Salvador and my partners students here in Recife, your Si-Hing. This is because in some ways, I'm still very impulsive, and I still miss the 'savvy' and finese Si Fu both tell me, but I always try to put myself in everything and wholeheartedly in training, in my position as a member of a martial clan and taxpayer as a person in society.

(Traditional Photo SiFu-Todai in households SiFu Marcos and his little Luiza, Si-Hing John, I and the dog Hanna)

Incutindo-me agir pela ''não-ação''.

Therefore, there are three people in particular within the MoGwun will mirror that I admire so much and others, in addition to Si Fu, are my Si-Hings João Gilberto, Lucas Mogg Master and Luke Nirkki. Are completely distinct personalities, just as there are not equal in our school in Salvador ... but these guys obviously beyond technique, I admire how they can manage these issues with immense ease!

Si Fu always tells me that we should always be '' smart '' and always be alert to possibilities of what can happen in anticipation of what may come. Instilling in me to do the '' non-action ''. In given situations, it is amazing how Si Fu always hits !!! Perhaps this for me, is one of the great skills that my Si Fu has and that on the day I reach - if it ever be able to achieve - I will not It bothers me so much when someone calls me Si Fu ....

Wing Chun Fighting Drill; Bong/Lan Gurk

Let's look at this little video I made to publicize the classes at school where I am currently teaching:

Antes de vermos a técnica propriamente dita, deixe-me aclarar sobre o tipo de treinamento que levamos e que sim, faz parte do espírito e da forma essencial do estilo wing chun de nossa ramificação;

Before we see the technique itself, let me clarify about the type of training we lead and so is part of the spirit and essential form of the Wing Chun style of our branch;

First of all; All the techniques we use in training or in combat are aimed, first of all, the practical implementation as a starting conceptual idea and putting them in order situations '' real '' or, as Si Fu likes to refer; in 'conflict situations in uncontrolled environments''. These same techniques are drawn from the forms (Siu Nim Tau, Chum Kiu, Biu Ji, Moy Fah Jong) following an intrinsic logic to the system stratagem and put together will other bases and other movements, inherent also to the system and that alone can not be characterized as complete techniques, or the form itself - which is where the techniques comes in its original - are fragmented, so that the practitioner can 'mount' 'sequences, or envision application possibilities, will be from the direction of the Si Fu, will be from an insight, etc ... therefore, the same technique can have millions of variants and in that environment, is not very clear what is in fact an attack or a defense since the same motion can serve for both cases.

However, since with this in mind, in a fight, it is necessary that the practitioner always have to put the technique and not stand still waiting for her by itself produce the knockout ... it's good to have one or two tricks up its sleeve to continue you invested, since it put the desired technique, observing some strategic principles.

Second; Always repeatedly practice the same techniques for hours on end ... Why I say this? Taking advantage of the ballast that short video demonstration mine and the impact he made, obviously a lot of people criticized and many people spoke well. Those who criticized, said that when something is '' Combined, everything goes in perfect condition and the technique works well ... '' What these ignorant people do not know is that when we train these drills, the purpose is the technical accuracy. But still, who attacks, attacks in a realistic way . If you miss your movement, you'll take a punch or a kick in your face, so try not to miss !!! Who are applying the technique, will not achieve the fact partner. This is to train the instinct of self-preservation. Neurological stimulus will be like a '' snap '' where when you '' triggers '' technique, you will have to continue, no matter what happens! The drills are so called because they are tools will be worked and how in our family, we train all repeatedly, for hours and hours, day after day, we understand that the practice should be diligent enough so that everyone understands that training serves to improve the technique of both, both of whom attacks, such as who will perform the move, in order to internalize it as part of your second nature, placing it in his nervous system! Now that of course ... obviously in combat, you must hit indeed ... but that's the easy part; It is difficult not to get hit!

Third; Always train with boxeur gloves and protective equipment. Some or the same ignorant people  claim that these devices restrict the actual practice .... and bla bla bla ... on the street you will not have equipment, and bla bla bla ... belching a pseudo traditionalism .... Well, it is practice! In practice when it comes to the story is this: Or you train responsibly, or not trains. Not because a punch is delivered with a glove that punch did not go [to hurt; You can be sure it will hurt yes! Did I mention it here once; a football player always enters to play with all its standard in order, her shin guards, cleats, etc. and it is nevertheless to play with all their energy, gas etc ... and during training in CT, the football player will always be with its standard equipment in order as well ... that - among other things - even to prevent some more serious accident. And because then it would be different with Wing Chun? And while you can repeat a technique (some you can not even really) 10 times without the equipment, with the equipment you can repeat 100 times .... Si Fu told me several times the example of one of my older kung fu brothers, there a few years ago and I can not remember the name at the moment, where was training Siu Kwan Sau with another student and would not deliver the punches against forceful defense of his partner without the boxing gloves as a result; This Si-Hing broke a finger to punch the elbow of his training partner .... ie it is a matter of logic.
On the street, if you have to fight in any situation, as proof that their preventive strategy and attention have failed! And then I entered another matter ...

Tendo isto posto, vamos á técnica;

But back to the subject ... could not fail to mention here that in the case of this technique technique in particular, as said, we always start from the conceptual to the application taking in mind some peculiarities that adaptation, both sports, as the coming adaptation of evolution the way to fight suffered in recent decades, forces us, in a way, will review.

With this post, we will technique;

( Si Fu Gordon Lu Executando Bong/Lan Gurk)
(Si Fu Gordon Lu doing Bong / Lan Gurk)

Bong/Lan Gurk

Bong / Lan Gurk

This particular technique I love to practice. Was one of which I trained more in the last time that i was in Si Fu house and Mo Gwun to my regular training and in the meantime from there to here, I have had good opportunities to put it into practice in sparring. Generally I do not really like to tease out the variants and application possibilities, as this would be something like '' deliver the gold, '' but I will try here, tease the body mechanics for its implementation, which is already a lot, believe me...so come on ....

 Aprendendo o Kwan Sau

Learning 'Kwan Sau'

On the second level of the Wing Chun system, already used practitioner will perform some techniques,he will amplify this effect and will run two or three tasks simultaneously. Once one understands what is the Siu Nim Tau and what each movement of the form, we will Thereafter, work different movements that are apparently disparate and that when put together, will produce in particular technique.

Kwan Sau is what we call when we put a Tan Sau and Bong Sau together in a single movement. Almost every practitioner of Wing Chun knows what a Bong-Wu Sau. This position is very similar. In our branch. We will tend to put the Bong Sau going forward, as a first defense, with well positioned elbow and Tan Sau covering the flank, being a second defense in a posture slightly higher. To generate power and support, we use the swivel base (Joh or Chor - Mah) and and use the base, the hips and shoulders together. This technique can be clearly seen as well as the Muk Yan Jong (pillar wooden man).

( Si Jo Yip Man demonstrando Kwan Sau na forma do Muk Yan Jong)
(Si Jo Yip Man showing a 'Kwan Sau' on Muk Yan Jong form)

But the 'Kwan Sau' can not have a clear definition to use. That is, you can either attack with Kwan Sau, as can use to cover, or you can counter attack with .... how do you go and do use in this way it is subject for another post, but we specify in Kwan Sau using it the way It is employed as we observe this in specific technical ....

Fechando todo o lado do corpo

Closing the entire side of the body

Facing an opponent will rarely you will know what he'll do. Only that they will try to hit him in some way. So it is necessary that you anticipate your move with a counter-offensive movement. If you do it carelessly, you can get a knockout before anything else, as an experienced fighter will not telegraph anything for you and yes, it will only attack you in the proper distance and try to impose their game against you. ... so it's good to look first of all '' read '' the intentions of the opponent, I will make him come and go in his time to pick it up and work the principle of simultaneous defense and attack. Assuming that you are ready and prepare a strong opponent and heavy kick, you will not have many chances to be thinking hard before deciding what you will do. So the priority is always cover first ....

But the opponent will not tell you whether to kick high or low, is not it? If he decides to throw a kick, he'll have your ankle to your head as targets and if you try to '' catch '' his kick, or try any nonsense, will lead a sole in the face or chest or any other body part before his defense come to deflect the blow. So, once you decide to cover priority, it takes you to cover the entire flank of the chosen side.

(Note Kwan Sau closing the entire area; if my student Severino - who is a black belt in Shotokan Karate and attacks very strong - decided to change the angle of the shot, I would like to keep myself reasonably covered)

Understand; In Wing Chun, as a rule, we use your legs to defend the lower area and hands, the upper area of the body, as most often is taught, and it follows a logic. But since we do not know where the opponent will kick in and if we stop to try to guess, will be achieved before we can do anything - use Lan Gurk (stop with the leg) together with Kwan Sau, to close all over the body. If the opponent kick high,Kwan Sau will cover, if he kick down, the positioning of the leg will do the job, even if the hands are positioned the same way.
But if you lower - even a little - the Kwan Sau, thinking that the opponent will kick in any other target and along the way he changes the direction of the shot, believe me, you'll get hit over and will only realize after waking up from knockout

Extracting sustainability and strength

Once the opponent throw a kick, they are often heavy blows that do not always come when we are well positioned. Even if we can put the defense, by the strength of the opponent Shot impact we can rock going back or taking a few steps not to fall. Therefore, many Wing Chun practitioners when they do defend this type, get out of balance when things do not go as expected. In our family, as important as we launch coverage and close the side of the body, it is to do with our movement has sustainability and support enough not to go back. We do this by shocking the base leg  or the supporting leg on the ground, when we do Bong / Lan Gurk. There are some other details that case I mentioned here, would be too long. A more clinical look at the video and you will understand ....

Complementando....

Complementing ....

Once you can - at some point - stop the opponent's kick - and in this particular video case, I use actually Chaai Gurk (step on the opponent's leg) to intercept the shot from my training partner - is likely to continue its attack with some sleight of hand. However, we do not know how it will attack, and on our second movement, we will use some other cover to ensure that we are not affected and will hit with this coverage. In the video, I do Pak Da, taking 45 degrees to the side, escaping from the opponent's blow in a more or less safe angle. In the first movement, I do Tan Da, with a variation of a hook punch (see the second form - Chum Kiu). Even if the sleight of hand of the opponent does not come, you must make Pak, or Tan or any other technique to cover  the upper area, and should follow against attacking .... Remember, if you block and continue blocking going back, is not good strategically in combat and an hour, it will hit you. You will at some point move foward. Often you can once done Bong Gurk, go straight to the Li Wan Choy (Chase punches), running over the opponent, or out at 45 degrees, cover with Tan Sau and follow with Dung Gurk (front kick), how do in one of the variations which are possible.

(Note that the horse is set at 45 degrees to the angle against the opponent, picking up what we call '' outside Door '')

(Tan Da with punch in order to hook the ribs, as variation to advance, covering the upper area)

Strategically speaking, once you supplement with some other movement, it is necessary that in another situation that is not training, you can keep moving forward looking for the knockout or finish the fight as soon as possible ... to keep in shorter distance to keep attacking and generate power through the biomechanical principles governing the generator of basic strength of the Wing Chun system.

Previously, people when pre-had will go into a kung fu family - that when they were given and only after a formal presentation (by Kai Suy Yan) and after prior approval of Si Fu - were aware that this would entail a lot of responsibilities. Not only pro student, but also for the SiFu. Therefore, the Si-To respect it is largely emphasized as a very close relationship will father and son relationship.

Only in this case, especially in the old days, the Si Fu was who almost became the legal guardian for the education of the student, not only martial education, but even the individual's character formation. This, in turn, had the full knowledge that should life-saving not only the Kuen Sut (martial system), but also the ethical conduct involved in the experience and learning.

In Hong Kong the decades 50-60, Yip Man was responsible for the opening of the Wing Chun system for public education. People from various social classes appeared and speculated about the high amounts of money that the old master was receiving and / or charged by their lessons. The fact is that even when he was alive, many of which were to be future holders of style, already perceived - among other things - that in a few years would be necessary to organize institutions that could preserve the knowledge that was passed. Thus, the individual who had a reputation as a '' closer '' from '' student who learned the whole secret '', '' the disciple closed doors' 'or' 'who had better understanding of the system' 'would obviously have more prominence in the' 'market' '... Some did it early, others later ...

However, not everything in this universe which is the Wing Chun comes down will a market reserve for at least the past years. The Si Fu had to realize on its potential successor, the qualities that could make him a driver to save guard the past knowledge, as in previous generations up to that particular time.

The student in turn, would have to have attributes, qualities and characteristics for both. Hence the aphorism; '' It is very difficult for a student to find a good Si Fu, but it's harder still a Si Fu find a good student. '' If you look in the oral history of the system, the old patriarchs had very few students and reluctant to accept a beginner. ..

Nowadays, it's much easier to find a qualified Si Fu. Today we have internet, telephone, GPS and more a zillion applications, websites, addresses, all easily located on the network. Believe me, as you have not read this article, right now I can be talking to any avid enthusiast of style anywhere in the country and the world who wants lessons. However, still, it is very difficult to find a Si Fu honest, and equally difficult to Si Fu find a student who, over time, does not become a pretentious and thirsty face '' power '' and end up leaving the technical and the side of ethics, but I've already back at this point ...

Onde eu quero chegar é ; As pessoas devem ter a noção do quão importante é obter a real essencia do Wing Chun.

Where I'm getting at is; People should have an understanding of how important it is to get the real essence of Wing Chun. Not by simply believing that one can, after years of experience in some other kind of martial system, find or guess, who can understand what is actually learn, practice and develop the real spirit of the system Wing Chun, its principles, concepts, movements , etc, etc ...

Some people completely lose discretion when it comes to accepting a student, seeking only money .... So giving a practical example, when someone comes to me, either in social networks that is personally willing to '' learn Wing Chun '' the first thing I ask is; - '' What for you want to learn? ''. I am not surprised when the person does not even know how to answer, and soon after, explain; - '' You can find somebody so, will give you all the answers, teach what you WANT to learn, but that may not necessarily be what we really art is or means. You can try to investigate before, researching before, but if you come train with me, the only thing I can guarantee is that will not be easy! ''

So I said in the previous article, Wing Chun is not such a charm that people think it is. No one, I say and I repeat, no one can say he learned Wing Chun without a coexistence with Si Fu, in some kind of degree. This is not of representativeness to be the owner of '' flag '', '' shirt '', '' association '' or something like that and yes, a matter of learning law, to practice an art with substance and where you You can really investigate in a team line as it reached you through the masters; I've already talked it here on the blog once - a guy who trains Long Quan, for example, even with years of experience can never understand another kung fu style just by mastering a style, however it has mastery. Or a guy master of Wing Chun, if not practice another style, you can never say that understands that other art. If so, we would have doctors in every corner, but with no formal academic training, it would be not necessary to study medicine for that, you know?
Obtain the understanding of the Wing Chun system requires specific studies, a lot of training, sweat, tears, blood and over a range of sacrifices and difficult personal choices to make ....

And these personal sacrifices involved and all the pressure that exists is really intense .... How many people who call themselves masters - without ever having trained before or after - with a recognized master and yet criticize those who follow a school, lineage , branch, clan .... etc ....? And you have to live with it ???

But anyway ...

Back to the subject; It is necessary to have this kind of notion, because, in fact, get the essence of martial art is not for everyone and not everyone can. An article by Sibaakgung Allan C. Lee, last formal disciple of Yip Man, list, very intelligently, a number of criteria for someone to truly become a disciple and get what he calls the '' essence '' - and my Si Fu calls '' finese '' - the martial art and here I enclose saying; Ask yourself if you can really do this ...:.

'Due to its scientific approach, Wing Chun became a style that emphasizes the particular practical application for real life. Proper training and diligent practice in Wing Chun can provide combat capability applicable in a relatively short period of time. It is this skill that made extremely famous Wing Chun in the martial arts field.

However, the martial arts are definitely not for everyone and even fewer people are able to grow it. There are several criteria one must first fulfill in order to truly get the art of Wing Chun. Some of the most important are:

1. DESTINATION: You must be lucky enough to find a SiFu able to pass the knowledge to you.

2. THE RIGHT SIFU: Your SiFu should be able to apply Wing Chun in real fighting. For example, how can you trust someone to teach him to swim if that person has never tried to swim BEFORE? Your SiFu must also be willing to teach you wholeheartedly and unreservedly.

 3. PASSION: To be truly great at anything, you must first love what you do. You may want to truly get Wing Chun, to sacrifice so much time, money and effort.

Tudo isto requer dinheiro.

 4. ADEQUATE FINANCE: Obviously, you should at least be able to pay some kind of tuition for the opportunity to learn. But the most important point of this criterion is that you should not have to worry about money if you are to devote themselves to Wing Chun. How can train seriously in anything if you should care about even how to put food on your table or keeping a roof over your head? There is also the issue of equipment and a place to train. All this requires money.

 5. TIME: This criterion is closely linked with sufficient financial resources should you have the luxury of time to train seriously. It takes several hours of daily training appropriate to achieve the ability to apply Wing Chun in real fighting.

6. Perseverance: The way to really get Wing Chun is full of pain, difficulties, obstacles, and other unforeseen circumstances. You must have the mindset to face and overcome these challenges. If you give up because of discomfort or injury, or if you can not sacrifice socializing and leisure time, you'll never make it.

7. TRAINING PARTNERS: You must have access to a large number of training partners. That's why you should learn to apply Wing Chun, so that it will work against any opponent. It is also imperative that these training partners are willing to help you.

8. APPLICATION: Because Wing Chun is an art of combat, it is necessary to apply art in real fights. You can read everything there is to know about swimming and practicing the moves diligently in the air, but unless you actually enter the water and try to swim, you may well drown the first time you try. It is therefore necessary that you always ask yourself if you really have and are able to apply Wing Chun in a real fight. The definition of a real fight is not necessarily one that involves defending your life. A friendly sparring or competitions that are well regulated can also be considered as such. That's because you have no idea what the opponent will do. The only thing we know is that your opponent will try to attack him.

9. AMBITION: You must have the ambition to always get more. The only way to make progress is a style that each new generation tries to outdo the previous generation. It is true that the next generation may not always be able to overcome the latter, but at least the style and art can be preserved.

10. LOYALTY: The quest for knowledge is an endless journey. As such, the desire to gain knowledge should never be lost or there is a possibility that knowledge can disappear completely. In order to really get Wing Chun, you should dedicate your whole life to art. His love for his art and style should never wavering, for now rests on your shoulders to educate and enlighten the next generation as their SiFu has educated and how he trained. '

Em breve mais uma postagem técnica...

That's all folks!
