''Melhor ter ido ver o filme do Pelé...'' Ip Man 3!

''It Would be Better to have gone to see the Pelé's movie ... ''
                                           Ip Man 3!

Yes my friends, that's right ... the sentence - one of the most famous of the series 'Chavo del 8' - the title describes exactly the feeling I had to finish watching the new film from Donnie Yen, the third (and i wait, the last) part of the saga '' Ip Man '' - known in Brazil as, '' the grand Master '...

For those who watched the first movie and was delighted with everything there, the soundtrack, the plot, and obviously the action scenes (and that yes, a great movie) '' Ip Man 2 '', however, has been a tremendous cold water! The film, which has a first and interesting part, became its half to the end, a Chinese version of '' Rocky IV '', with the challenger foreigner who kills his friend-rival of the hero and all that cliched movies where the main character had to train a lot and bring '' the honor to their community '' ... and the priceless Sammo Hung acting in another franchise on Wing Chun. Another for his vast curriculum, actually. Ok, I know, I know...

And then it took a few years, others films comes like the terrible;  ''The Legend is Born; Ip Man'' - that pleased few and ''The Grandmasters'', that yes, in my opinion, is and remains the best film about Wing Chun and Chinese martial arts of recent times, coming close even a movie that I consider '' The great ' martial arts film, insuperable of all time; Enter the Dragon, by Bruce Lee. Not to mention the biographical Ip Man; The Fight end which has a beautiful story, but even went near the quality of the Grandmasters.

But the whole expectation was actually on the continuation of the saga '' Ip Man 'with Donnie Yen, as he played the patriarch Ip Man so convincingly in the first film, which had to not be looking forward to the third film ... And there was very publicized. The presence of Mike Tyson (!) In the third film and even the possibility of Bruce Lee appears in digital effects in the film left the audience and especially the Wing Chun practitioners even more tense ... The expectation only increased ... Scenes who arrived in small 'chunks'' further whetted the curiosity of those who expected the third film was shot, the best of all!

E acredite, eu torci muito pra isso!
And believe me, I expected so much for this!

When many sharing sites posted the film - by now released in Asia and the US - with subtitles in Portuguese terrible, but minimally readable - obviously I watch. This time did not want to see the files that were sent to me by practitioners friends from other countries, file these with original audio in Chinese with no subtitles in English or Portuguese, not to have a partial print. But I was there to see the film, even with these small problems. And the film is perhaps the worst of all ... and no, it was not the legend fault ... I confess that after watching Yip Man 3, I even sympathize with The Legend is Born, that's so bad, even mentioned here Blog at the time of its release and yet, I will not post photos of this movie here!

Ip Man 3, or '' The Grand Master 3 '' does not excite; The script is very weak, extremely caricatured characters, small gangsters, the central characters ... Donnie Yen Ip Man leads between characters without much expression, fights without any apparent sense, shakes clichés and this gives the impression that he has not much to do ... there is only serving to justify the title of the film. The modus operand Ip Man this film remains the same; subject calm, soft-spoken, always with a moral lesson will be passed ...

The film opens with the famous Bruce Lee scene asking to be accepted as a disciple (other cliché extensively explored in other films and incredibly not appear much in this) and kicking cigarettes to show how fast can be ... If the film had some anti-tobacco message, all right. But Ip Man Donnie smoke the whole movie when not solemnly sitting in his chair drinking tea and looking at nothing ... probably thinking about life ...

Mike Tyson looks like a '' The Boss '' 80s video game, with all that pomp of '' Godfather evil '', without expression, though, even better interpreted Danny Chan doing a young Bruce Lee full of flashy gestures in imitation as bad as those actors who were successful in the 80s with the  fever of  '' Bruceploitation ''.

Who does not remember the classic Trash; '' The new fury of the dragon '', '' Enter the Fat Dragon '' and '' The game of death 3 '' - that so bad, came the fun? Well ... shame that Yip Man 3 not much fun .

These two characters could easily is not there ... would not make any difference ... since the character of Max Zhang, Cheung Tin Chi, enters the story as another practitioner of Wing Chun, '' less orthodox '' and challenges Yip Man for the title of '' Authentic Wing Chun ''. It is, friend, that's it ... Wing Chun vs. Wing Chun to know who is actually the owner of the Wing Chun ... sound familiar? Meaningless, of course ... but quite familiar ...

Indeed, it is here a note; Why the hell someone would sing his name and the name of your style before fighting ???? This is actually more a trend that was released with the first '' Ip Man '' and that became fashion and success there in Asia, here, does not seem to make any sense ... another point that out choreographies where everything resolves with Chain Punches and Dung Gurk, this is another extremely rough point the film ...

Even the character Wing Sing, played by Lynn Hung, escapes; It is the central part of drama of the the movie. But with a plot so consistent than the cold coffee on a Saturday morning after a hangover for all the last night, even if she cried so much than the characters of Thalia in Mexican soap operas, would not bring any grace to the film ...
The fight scenes, moreover, remain the same as always ... there is no novelty. Perhaps the best scenes of the film - taking that very low base that Donnie is against Tyson and that someone identified for the hell serves it, please comment here - are really the Ip Man vs Frank, and struggles with Pa Chan Tous between Ip Man and Cheung Chi Tin. But in all others, there is a certain exaggeration ...Forget the Muay Thay guy! Everything will summarize in Chain Punches and Dung Gurk ... Ah, life would be so beautiful if it were ...

The rest of the film is very redundant and does not add much. Indeed, the film does not excite the opening to the closing credits. Just who is really fanatic by any Chinese movie will like. If there are people who likes Bruce Lee resurging from the grave to knock out the death (!!!!), Will be people who will like Ip Man 3 ...

( Estranho não é? Mas tem gente que gosta!)
(Strange is not it? But there are people who like ...)

Não vou dar 'spoiler' no roteiro, mas recomendo que você amigo leitor, assista e tire suas próprias conclusões...A nossa aqui é a mesma do Chaves;

- ''Seria melhor ter ido ver o filme do Pelé...''

Realmente!

I will not give spoiler in the script, but I recommend you dear reader, watch the film and draw your own conclusions ... Our here is the same of  ''Chavo del 8'';

- '' It would be better to have gone to see the Pelé's movie ... ''

Really!

Leung Bik teria existido????

Leung Bik Was a Real Person or not???

Among the many and various existing controversies within the real universe that is the Wing Chun (And whenever I write this phrase '' universe Wing Chun '', there's no way I do not remember the 'Universe Image' 'or' ' DC universe '', the comic as it is, it is well that's right), an issue that always comes up in various discussions, are within the Mo Gun or even on the internet is; Leung Bik was a real person or not ???

Today's article is not intended as something illuminating, but rather give a starting point for people to be able to search and try to get more knowledge about this and other aspects of genealogical study, which is immense, profound, often confusing, but quite wide. This issue resurfaced recently in a survey conducted by some practitioners of Wing Chun from Singapore on a widely shared post on social networks.

Mas quem é Leung Bik?
O que ele tem a ver com Yip Man?
Porque questionar sua existência?

But who is Leung Bik?
What does he have to do with Yip Man?
Why question his existence?

We will discuss further ahead and I hope this post can begin will further study, research and discussion among our readers friends ...

Quem foi Leung Bik???
Who was Leung Bik ???

To know better about this complex character, we need to go back a little more and know - through oral tradition - on the other also relevant character, before he will; The Patriarch Leung Jan.

( Selo do patriarca Leung Jan - Leung Jan seal)

According to oral tradition, the patriarch Leung Jan (whose original name was Leung Dak Wing) - or Liang Derong, known by several nicknames like 'The King of Wing Chun' ',' 'Fists of FatSan' 'or even '' Dr. Jan of Foshan '', was quite proficient in the system and a well respected medical herbalist. He fought as much as your SiFu in the past, Leung Yee Tai, who was driving the bat in red boat, which crossed the china rivers presenting the Chinese opera. It was his reputation as a pharmacist who served the poor and wounded which caused Leung Yee Tai took him as a disciple.

Leung Jan - in comparing - had more disciples than their SiFu and Sigung but had few disciples. In fact, only his two sons, Leung Tsun and Leung Bik and a man named Lee Wah, whose nickname was '' Lee Wah Muk Yan'', or Lee Wah Wooden man - Lee Wah the Wooden Man '', were his disciples older. Until he accepted a young man named Chan Wah Sun as his last disciple.

Chan Wah Sun, known as '' Jow Chin Wah '' and was known for his profession - Money changer - having fought as much as his predecessor. Later, Chan Wah Sun would like his last disciple, the patriarch Yip Man.

Until then, the story tells how the system transmission went through the last two generations before the patriarch Yip man become the system owner.

The existence of Leung Jan is a given with most background credibility to scholars of the subject, the documents exposed in Ip Man Tong (Museum of Yip Man in FatSan), ace which had been presented by Leung Bik will Yip Man, assuming that both Leung Jan Leung Bik as existed in fact. But what makes the existence of Leung Jan is credible is the fact that even today, in Kulo village, there are people who preserve their lineage.

Also according to the oral tradition, Yip Man had trained a few years with Chan Wah Sun - which would pass away soon after - and this, urged the young Yip who sought his older brother kung fu, N'g Chung So, to complete their studies. A fact that did not happen. Yip Man studied a period N'g Chun So, but had to go to the Hong Kong finish their regular studies. Although trained a good time with Ng Chung So, he could not complete the system under the guidance of his Sihing.

And it was on that first trip to the island that the young Yip Man would have met Leung Bik, who by coincidence, was a friend of a school friend. Also in this his first visit to the island, when it would have gone to complete his academic studies and when he would have around 24 years Yip Man would then have completed his studies of Wing Chun with the support of Leung Bik, son of his Sigung.

But then, what had happened to the other disciples of Leung Jan? And what happened with Leung Bik soon after? Leung Bik would any other disciple so that it could further base the thesis that Yip Man learned in fact with him? It was because of the initial questions that will doubts about the existence or not of Leung Bik began to appear.
The point is; to off the oral tradition, much of what we can see will concerning the transmission system, through several of its patriarchs, precisely are the people that safeguarded, that is, its most prominent disciples. We can draw a seed or a '' timeline '' will from that kid who started a school today, even the supposed founder, Yim Wing Chun, there are about 400 years ago and thus we see their teachers and the continuity of the lineage. Thus, we can see two things:

First of all; Some Leung Jan's Family practitioners are very active today. The ancestral village Kulo or Gu Lo, where Leung Jan patriarch lived in a later stage and where he taught for more students, now calls his lineage - Kulo Wing Chun (Gu Lo Wing Chun) - one of the most rare Wing lines Chun practiced in the world.
Second - we have no indication that there is some other disciple of Leung Bik, or some supposed continuity of their lineage.

However, in the oral tradition of the system, the names like Chan Yu Min (陳汝 綿) and Ng Chung So (吳仲 素), are easily verifiable.

Oral tradition and 'Masters' of Yip Man.

Mas nos atendo aos fatos;

Studies claim that Si Jo Yip Kai Man, formed the core of what would be his Wing Chun will be from at least three different forms of the same art and these three families would not have necessarily a direct connection with Leung Bik or even consider that he would existed. Or they say, but do not attribute it will some genealogical value will preserve the style.
Some SiFu's renowned even believe Leung Bik would have been the son of Leung Jaan who has never practiced Wing Chun in his life. Statement that - among others - that are the basis of speculation ...
But I'll get to the facts;
Yip Man was supposedly not learned from Leung Bik, who would have learned then?

Written records of the strains of Yuen Kay San talk about Sijo Yip Man visits. Just as there are visits records of Yip Man to SiFu Sun Nung, in order to complement their training. But a historical observation to light must be done to better understand ...

The story has already been told; Yip Man to arrive in Hong Kong, had been deposed and was helped by a good friend named Lei Man At from which, allowed Yip Man. - Who had no profession or skill - could teach Wing Chun professionally. What he did in the union of Hong Kong restaurant workers, where he found his first disciple, Leung Sheung.
But that would create a conflict, since he could not claim to have completed all phases of the training with his SiFu, Chan Wah Sun or your Sihing, N'g Chung So, what would give banks will speculations and even desmentimento public before martial community and by the people who knew her SiFu or his associates in FatSan

Moreover, teaching the system without having completed could be more of a problem before the martial community of Hong Kong. But due ace circumstances, probably Yip Man was forced to teach. A output would have been just the story that is told by oral tradition.
The story would have been written by Lee Man to help his Yip Man colleague during their stay in Hong Kong in order to facilitate or enable that he could teach Wing Chun professionally by the difficulties inherent in thier martial community and the historic moment of Hong Kong that moment.

What we can observe only lightly this oral tradition in the history of Wing Chun is a very important thing in the matter of transmission system; Once your SiFu or even yourself, have some sort or some degree of impediment to continue your studies, you can continue practicing with his Si-Hing, or your SiBaak or its Si Sok, or even your Sitaaigung (if it is still alive) and his SiFu remain your SiFu.

Therefore, there is no reason to question whether or not the existence of Leung Bik, as much as the patriarch Yip Man may have learned from others of his superiors in the hierarchy, as Lineage has nothing to do with REPRESENTATION, these are things of more modern times and nothing, absolutely nothing can ensure that their knowledge is worth more than any other, but the importance lies in knowing that knowledge chun wing system has a priceless totally subjective nature; ensuring the continuity of a tradition that remote for more ancient times than yours and that these habits can be passed before you.

What is known is; No one knows for sure so if Leung Bik would actually existed or not. But for us, this is a very clear question:

(Supostas - os homens nas fotos, com exceção de Yip Man não correspondem á legenda -fotos de Leung Jan, Leung Bik, Chan Wah Sun junto á foto de Yip Man)
(Alleged - In fact, the men in the photos, with the exception of Yip Man do not match the legend - photos of Leung Jan, Leung Bik, Chan Wah Sun next to the photo of Yip Man)

For us, practicing the lines of Yip Man, the importance of oral tradition and Leung Bik figure is the fact that we believe in this tradition just like we were passed by our SiFu's and the moral lessons they bring us, when we observe with caution. The genealogical study is of great importance for us and bring us greater understanding of how we should take the behavior towards you our ancestors within the Chinese customs that are part of the Wing Chun system study.

And then, reviewing the trailer for the new film from Donnie Yen and rethinking on this matter, I wonder to myself here ...

Does it will be portrayed in the new movie ???

Quem sabe....
Who Knows...
