Analisando o video; Kwan Sau contra ataque em combinação de chute e soco - Analyzing the video; Kwan Sau against attack in combination of kick and punch

Vejamos o video demonstrativo que filmamos ha duas semanas atrás;
Let's look at the demo video we filmed two weeks ago;

In a previous post, I explained how we could use a combination of two basic hands still seen in Siu Lin Tau to create a specific technique (Kwan Sau, using Bong Sau and Tan Sau at http://blogdodido-dido.blogspot.com. Br / 2016/11 / analyzing-technical-elements-bong-sau.html). Today we will see in a short video, a simple combination of how we can use this movement in combination with other moves to counterattack an offensive sequence of circular kick and direct punch. I will link some older material so that the reader understands that it is adding technical elements to other technical elements and offensive and defensive gestures, using these more basic technical elements coming from the forms, that we can create sequences and complete techniques. Thus, as seen in previous matters, only knowing the shapes of the Wing Chun system does not mean knowing how to use it in combat. It is necessary to understand the "how" and the "why" of each movement contained in the forms and how this will be expressed throughout the training and in its unfolding.

Na verdade, a parte mais importante do Wing Chun é entender seus conceitos. Os conceitos do sistema são a pedra fundamental. Sem entender os princípios subjacentes ao estilo, ele simplesmente não irá funcionar, ou terá  alguma deficiência em algum nível de compreensão. Você pode ser um exímio lutador, mas se não entender os princípios mais básicos do sistema, não estará aplicando o Wing Chun. Então, para esta análise em específico, é preciso que antes, o praticante de Wing Chun tenha entendido e internalizado um dos princípios mais importantes do sistema Wing Chun; A diferença que existe entre o que é cobrir e o que é bloquear golpes. Vamos a um breve resumo;

In fact, the most important part of Wing Chun is to understand their concepts. The concepts of the system are the cornerstone. Without understanding the principles underlying the style, it simply will not work, or will have any deficiencies in some level of understanding. You may be an accomplished fighter, but if you do not understand the basics of the system, you will not be applying Wing Chun. So, for this specific analysis, the Wing Chun practitioner must first have understood and internalized one of the most important principles of the Wing Chun system; The difference exists between what is cover and what is blocking blows. Let's take a brief summary;

Diferença entre Cobrir e Bloquear golpes
Difference between Cover and Block

To block an attack, it is necessary that before you see the blow coming, that you know with which hand (or foot) the opponent is attacking, at what angle, with what type of attack, to then select the movement to which you Will react and then act in fact. You need before a series of actions before you can actually block a blow coming towards you and even then you run the risk of not doing it in time, since the opponent's move is just him and nothing else. You will always be late if you try to block your punches all the time.

Covering is a key principle within Wing Chun. It refers to the idea that we must always be one movement ahead of your opponent. Therefore, I do not bother to block the opponent's blow, but cover a certain area. When we close a certain angle, the other side will be automatically opened, so it will be necessary, even before the opponent makes an offensive move, to close that other side as fast as I can and counterattack together. Never getting idle. Because if you only cover and cover ... and do not attack, an hour, the opponent will hit you, because nothing is 100% in combat, that's the reality. To be a forward motion, I need to be faster than my opponent to close the angle and hit it together, so simultaneous movements are the basic premise. You must have read somewhere that the best defense is the attack is not it? Covering involves anticipating the opponent's movement by acting first. Anticipating and acting will be actions that are faster than seeing and reacting.

In this video, my training partner tries a very common and usual sequence; High kick followed by direct punch. This combination is very basic and usually an experienced fighter never makes a kick or a more forceful attack without putting himself at a distance that favors his movement and always with some preliminary movement. However, some fighters also trigger that same kind of sequencing without much concern in keeping themselves covered. It is worth watching your opponent well during training or fighting. Upon realizing my opponent's attack, I turn my body to the left to cover the entire upper flank, using Kwan Sau, turning the base (Joh mah). In this case, I expose my elbows to the opponent's attack to cause him to discourage me from continuing to attack me by putting two hard shots against the only follower of the opponent coming toward me and potentiate my coverage by turning to the left. Closing this angle without having to think about it much, I turn my body to the other side and cover the right flank with Pak Sau while attacking Soh Gurk at the same time.

Note, the most basic Pak Sau is executed with a punch (yat ji jung choy) as counter- Attack, becoming Pak Da. However, there are variations and re-combinations that are seen during training, like this one. Pak Sau is usually seen in Siu Lin Tau (http://blogdodido-dido.blogspot.com.br/2016/05/siu-lin-tau-revisitado-siu-lin-tau.html) and in the form, there are Less 4 types of Pak Sau. In the case of this combination, the Pak will clear the area previously exposed, regardless of whether the second attack comes or not, or regardless of which hand the opponent will continue its sequence, it does not matter. While covering the entire area, Soh Gurk performs a function that does not necessarily strike, but catching the opponent's attention, distracting him from seeing his next move; Din Choy as finale (http://blogdodido-dido.blogspot.com.br/2013/08/din-choy-soco-da-batalha.html).

Once again, the corporal spin is executed and when taking the attention of the opponent with a low kick, that nevertheless, it hurts, I follow to the sequence of closing with Din Choy. As in the case of the video, it is a training, I did not release all the punch, there would not be the need for it and because it is very close to my training partner, it would probably hurt too much, since I am not wearing gloves ... Even So the idea is not to stop with that single attack. After this finish, the idea is to continue the attack with punches, kicks, elbows, etc ...

As variation and response for the same attack combo, I do Lan Gurk (http://blogdodido-dido.blogspot.com.br/2015/11/wing-chun-fighting-drill-bonglan-gurk.html), closing The left flank with Tan-Lan Sau, and I advance the base covering the same side previously opened with Lap Dar (http://blogdodido-dido.blogspot.com.br/2015/09/lap-sau-na-technica -for-fighting.html) for the response of the continuation of my opponent's combo combo, and I keep beating a second time, repeating the Pak Sau, shortening the distance by 45 degrees, being able to continue to attack in the short distance with elbows, giving Following.

I suggest to your friends readers to open the links mentioned here to better understand the concepts explained here. But as a reminder, I suggest that regardless of where you are in the Wing Chun system, whether you are a beginner student or even a SiFu, always go back and train your most basic principles and movements. Never neglect them. For it is they who will tell you how good you will be when you reach the advanced levels and how much you can refine them for future studies.

Um feliz ano novo chinês á todos.
A happy Chinese New Year to all.

Bong Sau is one of the most known and most publicized movements of Wing Chun system. No wonder 99% of Wing Chun practitioners appearing in photographs making this move. Almost as a synonym of style, is perhaps the most easily recognizable movement in the case of Wing Chun, either in Brazil or outside of Brazil.

And as many of the system movements, this one in particular, also receives endless variations of interpretations of its forms of implementation, applications and general concepts. Obviously this opens up a wide range of  many discussions where each lineage, family and teacher, defends his particular view on the subject.

We will not discuss here who may be right or wrong, but I will discuss here, in light of the understanding of what I have been studying with my SiFu. Some people may disagree, others agree. Normal. Wing Chun basically varies from interpretation to interpretation, even in the same lineage. This is due to the fact that the person who teaches, in addition to theoretical and practical knowledge that you receive from your SiFu, is also based on his own experiences of struggle. There is no problem or no big idea. Wing Chun is not only curriculum and standardization, or otherwise, would not be called system.

Conceitualização
Conceptualization

Bong Sau first appears in the third and last part of the first form of empty hands of Wing Chun system, called Siu Nim Tau (or Siu Lin Tau), after the last blow with the palm (Dai Wang Jeang). Some translations of Bong Sau look to the name of '' Wing Arm '' because the movement resembles the wings of the grow in defense against the attack of the serpent position within the oral tradition of the system . The movement begins as if we place another Tan Sau, but is suddenly reversed and the elbow is placed in a higher position than the wrist, without it, you intend to shoulder and hand reverses position, pointing to the tip of the opposite foot (Example: if you make the Bong Sau with his right hand, his index finger should point your left foot), keeping a triangle in relation to the body. In order Siu Nim Tau, it is preceded by a technical element Faan Sau Tan, which is a Tan Sau 'slapping', beginning in the very Bong Sau. And this has a reason. Then, in the second form of the Wing Chun system (Chum Kiu) we can see how the Bong Sau is used and how it is implemented in the form, along with a second defense, which we shall see.

Não pare o seu Bong Sau
Do not stop your Bong Sau

Lembro de SiFu me dizendo durante meu treinamento;  - ''Todo Tan Sau vira Bong Sau...Todo Bong Sau vira Tan Sau''.
Bong Sau is not a static movement. Most of the mistakes made by Wing Chun practitioners is given exactly by the fact that the practitioner tries to use Bong Sau as a fixed movement, where you stop it even. There are reports of people who bother to practice this movement, complaining of shoulder pain, precisely because they think the Bong Sau is a movement that depends on staying in the same position. But, Bong Sau is conceptually a transitional movement. You just change then for the next move. And from what we can see in the way, Bong Sau comes from a small Tan Sau, the output of your movement and switches to Faan Tan Sau, that is; The best move for the transition from Bong Sau is the Tan Sau and the best move to change the Tan Sau is the Bong Sau. This is evidenced when we practice what many lineages call Luk Sau, or the standard of '' cycle '' of the hands of Seung Chi Sau (double hands chi sau). Or just the standard workout Lap Sau Faat exercise where Bong sau is as first defense and Wu Sau as a second defense. I remember SiFu telling me during my training; - '' All 'Tan Sau' turns' Bong Sau '...' All Bong Sau 'turns Tan Sau'.

Mudando de nome
Changing name

A informal phrase about Bong Sau says; 'Bong Sau is never alone'. What gives us the idea that whenever we use the Bong Sau, it will always serve as a '' first '' defense. That is, Bong Sau will always need a second defense. The most common is we use Wu Sau (hands defending) at the Bong Sau. In most common strains when used Bong Sau plus Wu Sau as a second defense, called '' Bong Wu Sau '' or simply '' Bong Wu ''.

In our branch, the most common, given the way the movement is used, it is we call '' Kwan Sau '(tying hands) or' 'Siu Kwan Sau' '(small tie with hands), if this is a motion to cover the head, for example, a shorter movement. In some cases, you can still use Jam Sau (cut in your hands) and Tan Sau (hands scattering) along with Bong Sau, the same way.

(SiFu shows Bong Sau, or in some strains Bong / Wu Sau, or 'Kwan Sau' for the second form, Cham Kiu; Emphasis on the basis of mobility)

Bong Sau não vai parar soco nenhum!
Bong Sau will not stop any punch!

The common idea is that you use the horse rotation (Joh Mah) and use Bong Wu Sau, as a defense to a direct punch. Especially boxing punches. But believe me, Bong Sau will not stop direct punches that way. As many masters teach that the idea of defending this mandeira be useful, it only trains the basics to have a coordinating arms and bases, nothing more. In a real fight, or if the training partner really want to hit you when using the Bong Sau this way, you will realize that it does not really for punches that way.
This is because the idea of Bong Sau is '' to tie a knot, '' '' tie a knot. '' You would actually have to use the Bong Sau squeezing the opponent before the coup happen! Thus yes, the Bong Sau can be applied.

And it is precisely in this way that the system teaches how to use the Bong Sau, if we stop to observe more closely the exercise Tang Chi Sau (or Dan Chi Sau) Single sticky hands. When we are in Tan Sau and our training partner in Fuk Sau, began attacking with right palm (Ding Jeang) and the deflection of our partner Wu Sau in response, have an exposed area. Our job is to use the Bong Sau, without losing contact with the opponent and cover this area before the blow of the opponent actually happen.

Aplicando Bong Sau em luta
Applying Bong Sau in a fight

A very common mistake is to believe that when the opponent shoots a punch, especially boxing punches like jab or straight punch, you will be able to '' defend '' with the Bong Sau and still enjoy the same time to redirect the opponent's hand turning your Bong sau in Tan Sau for only then strike back with a bang on a lower side, like as in the first part of the shape of Wooden Snowman. The first thing we see is that it does not work!First, because when the oponente will punch, he does not let his arm there, waiting to be grabbed or redirected. Professional or good technical fighters, throw the punch and return the arm the same way, all the time. So how we can use Bong Sau in free combat? The first thing we can do before anything is; If your opponent throws you a punch, in theory he's easy to escape, just take a step back. The problem is that even a step back, will not guarantee that the opponent does not reach you. It you can achieve the same way. So we need to ensure that our space that gives us step back and shut or we cover the area where the blow can pass.

With the front hand, we put a Bong Sau a little more inclined to cover a larger area, and here we can use our shoulder to close more the way to our chin. The back hand can 'flatten' 'above the Bong Sau, positioning itself in Wu Sau, Bong Sau supporting and serving as a second defense, just as Bong/Wu Sau the conceptual format. Expose there the hardest part of our body (the case, the elbow) as first defense, to clash with the opponent's attack, which will cause it to discourage to continue attacking, so the Bong Sau slightly more inclined .

(Shot of a video where I do Siu Kwan Sau step back. In the video, the movement is very loose and relaxed, although the ideal is to be fitted in order to prioritize the correct angle. For the public at large, this retreating movement is very characteristic of our line, even though it is not a '' standard '' and not everyone of our branch do it all the time)

Existem pontos fortes e fracos e nesse caso a pergunta é;  Qual é a desvantagem nesse ponto?
But as its Sitaaigung Duncan Leung says, not everything in Wing Chun is 100% and I say; There is no perfect technique! There are strengths and weaknesses and in this case the question is; What's the downside at this point?
If we try to use Bong Wu Sau, or in this case Siu Kwan Sau or Kwan Sau such as indentation, thus we momentarily without vision, since the hand Wu Sau, which supports the second defense is well splayed, front our face. A small ballast of seconds without vision and you can take a low blow, since that area is open and you, without vision. Quick fighters tend to throw blows  like'' smell '' (jargon there Salvador, to specify '' fake blows '') and then follow up with a real blow. If he gets that his' 'timing' and realize that you get a few seconds without vision, it becomes an open door to a K.O., easy, easy.

However, to cover high kicks aimed at the head, Bong Sau used with Tan Sau is extremely useful. In this case, Kwan Sau always will meet with the opponent's attack. A Tan Sau alone could not bear the weight of a kick, or even a Bong Sau alone. But Kwan Sau, powered by the horse working and when properly seated extremely useful it is because the coverage gains support of a second support, since both hands are working together with the body in a single movement against the action the opponent and will be strengthened by the shock force or impact force.

Conclusão;
Conclusion;

Bong Sau is a simple movement, quick understanding. There is a movement which we are most familiar with the general public, but has become, over time, almost as a trademark of the Wing Chun system. However, the most common idea about how we can apply it often goes through the sieve of personal experience and often, discussions on how to run, normally becomes  fights. The practitioner who is aware you can see other interpretations of this and other open mind techniques, learn from a different point of view than yours. Why not try? Why not through the system's own logic, try to use this movement in its various aspects? Why not find the best way for YOU to run and to do it, either as in exercises like Lap Sau, Chi Sau or fighting drills? The tools and most basic hands of the system are arranged in ways technical elements and you can, after understanding how they work, try different combinations. Just have a little '' evil '' and make the style work for your reality, not merely follow a pattern.Bong Sau is one of those elements and I'm sure you can use it in the best way for you.

Derrubando mitos sobre Wing Chun Kung fu - Overturning myths about Wing Chun Kung fu

As mentioned in the last post, many of our new would-be practitioners or newly arrived students of our core Brazilian Wing Chun Academy in Recife arrive for a first contact with the Wing Chun already has some preconceived ideas about what is Wing Chun, or what was supposed to be the Wing Chun system. This turns out to be good and bad at the same time. Good for the fact that the person who comes, already has interest and certainly  researched about it. Bad on the other hand, as there is an endless sea of existing and misinformation that can lead to confusion.

This is not new. There is a lot of material about Wing Chun on the Internet, whether in written or video articles. Like today, the Wing Chun is spread around the world in numerous schools and numerous branches, known to be '' lineages '' with its own curriculum and methodologies often these variants cause confusion among the lay public who are not used to the fact that there are several schools Wing Chun, which often use the same name written same way, but differ completely from each other. In some cases, there are very similar schools, but in general, all these schools has its own characteristics that only one article in particular could list comprehensively.

In most cases, each school claims to be the only, or true, or closer to the root or legitimate. Unsurprisingly happen - not only for historical reasons and traditional issues - but an unspoken competition for power, influence or political issues. In fact, in all these discussions, people do not include the technique or relegate the technique to the background, and in the end, it ends up having other directions that do not matter at all who are looking for a serious school. Or, at best, make people even more confused.
And in most cases, people have come a little more discredited in the Wing Chun efficiency, since many of these same materials found in various websites, articles and videos show disputes between Wing Chun fighters against other types of struggle and usually the Wing Chun fighter loses the fight or when wins no wins convinced way. The Wing Chun fighter picks up as much as your opponent or not fight taking on some strategic advantage that is clear. Much less win easily.

Why then does this happen? Is there any reason for that to happen? Maybe we can get an idea if we analyze some myths about the Wing Chun system, so we can draw a profile because the people have misconceptions about the system. For this, I ask the indulgence to the reader that I express based on what I learned and I've been learning with my SiFu about what is in fact the Wing Chun system. Obviously I intend to write based on my own experiences and studies, which may restrict some issues. However, as here can also be a discussion forum, I'm open to receive corrections of my seniors, no problem, if necessary. As always, also I do not claim to speak for all my Wing Chun family, but if some of my brothers Kung Fu wish may contribute to the article. This would be of great help.

ESPECIFICIDADE DO SISTEMA WING CHUN; ESTILO ''RESOLVE TUDO''???
Specificity of WING CHUN Sistem; STYLE  that'' RESOLVE EVERYTHING IN FIGHT '' ???

Some teachers spread the idea that the Wing Chun system is effective against any kind of fight or against any martial art style. Usually this discourse is linked with an arrogant attitude of 'untouchable master' 'or in some form of' 'superior attitude' 'and what happens is that when the' 'master' 'fight - when is the kind of guy still fighting - does not seem to be as good as he says. It has happened several times Wing Chun fighter end up picking a any other style fighter. Here in Brazil, Jiu Jitsu fighters or the old '' Vale Tudo ( anything goes)'' had a habit hit a lot in those said '' kung fu masters '' precisely because of this kind of attitude.

What happens is that those teachers do not understand that Wing Chun works in a very specific way and although it has a strong feature toward unrestricted confrontation in non-controlled environments, the system by itself does not solve everything in a fight. The specificity of the system is to focus on the fight standing, one on one, with hard blows (punches, kicks, elbows, knees) that -using a sporting term - over strikers features than grapplers, in short, prioritizes the fight standing and not the ground fighting. This explains why often when brought to the ground, the Wing Chun fighter looks like a fish out of water but, becomes easy prey against an experienced fighter on the ground.
However, the system has Wing Chun 'solutions' in the effective 'anti-fall' environment and can be easily applied. They do not allow you to fight on the ground like a judo fighter would, but you can set aside some of their movements to escape and return to fight, or not let the fight go to the ground. Often I say; - '' If you fight on the street and is shot down, dead! Falling into a street fight means death! ''

The Wing Chun fighter despite fighting that way, standing as a striker, has the tendency to not exchanging free striking blows. It is not strategically smart you exchanging blows with the opponent, especially if he has some kind of advantage (either size, speed, scale, strength, etc ...). The Wing Chun fighter will have to be smarter than your opponent and know how to use the principles of art fight. So, have a good basic trained and have the concepts of internalized system if you really want to apply the system.

CHAIN PUNCHES/ ARTE TEÓRICA DEMAIS?
CHAIN Punches / theoretical art to the extreme?

Another feature of the Wing Chun system is that if you do not understand the principles and concepts behind each exercise, each fighting technique or if there is some misunderstanding about the technical elements and how the technique originated, the style will not work, or you can not apply it as proposed. The problem is that '' understand '' the concept goes beyond simply listening to the theory and understand what is being said. The system theory is eminently practical, says SiFu. Understand the theory is easy, the problem is to put it into practice! It is for that that the training will serve! This will give parameters on how you can actually see in action what it prioritizes as principles in the Wing Chun system. One of our mottos is the famous quote from Budah; - 'Application is the only way to verify the truth' '.
This makes the Wing Chun system is well known for being a system '' conceptual ''. But in fact, the theoretical knowledge is unique and unique is not enough if it is not put in practice.
SiFu say that there is no point if you study engineering 5 or 7 years in college, receiving his diploma and yet to be formed, it is not able to erect a building. So one of my favorite sayings is that '' The value is not what you know but what you do with what you know '.

Another feature of Wing Chun, the best known of the general public is their way to attack with punches and continued in sequence. These punches are given the nickname '' Punches barrier '' or '' chain punches '. Donnie Yen made these punches stay well known with your version of Chung Si Yip Man in 'Ip Man'.  But the Wing Chun system resumes only just to chain punches?
What happens most often is that regular fighters of Wing Chun are starting from nothing to come out firing endless punches and that in the end, can not hit strikingly the opponent. And this shows a breakdown of the system principles and I explain; Whenever the Wing Chun fighter can fit a heavier blow, the tendency is for him to continue attacking without giving chance to the opponent to recover, but only if he can fit successfully a previous stroke with knockout power. This is what we call 'follow up' ', ie to continue. Without it, no use firing punches in endless sequences to get the opponent. It's a waste of time!

Similarly, it has no logic down to punch an opponent who is on the floor. Donnie Yen does it almost all the time in his films and when I see it, I wonder; - '' What a hell he did it? ''

If the center line (seen here on the blog) is to remain always in the shortest distance between the target and your weapon (either foot or hand), has no logic you get down to punch someone. It would be easier to kick him, if any. Similarly, if I throw a high kick to hit with my foot to the opponent's head, I'm breaking this principle because I'm taking the long way to the target. .

WING CHUN USA MAIS AS MÃOS DO QUE OS PÉS E GOLPES EM LINHA RETA
WING CHUN USES MORE THE HANDS THAN FEET AND BLOWS IN STRAIGHT LINE

In fact, Wing Chun is a style originated in southern China and notably arising styles of southern China, for historical reasons, has its emphasis on hand movements and attacks within walking distance. But that does not mean we do not use kicks. Kicks in Wing Chun are in their lower most, because they follow the same central line principle for the hands; that is, we will always remain in the shortest distance to the chosen target. Hands defend line blows to the waist, feet and defend the waist down, that is, we will never lower our hands to defend blows below the belt line. We will in fact cover these areas, regardless of the opponent's movement. Also used crossed strokes, whenever we are strategically positioned so that following the same principles inherent in the system.

As the use of straight line, this come from a misunderstanding regarding the '' economy of movement ''. People often think that saving movement is running short strokes, straight, usually no gain additional strength to power his punches. But save movements within the Wing Chun system logic is; Waste the least possible moves. No matter whether they are circular motions, waveforms, etc ... what matters is that this movement can have an effective strategic use. So, I can after a dodge and a cover, which I use a full retreat base, use a kick starting from a side position to hit the opponent's ribs. Wing Chun is still the same way ... Or can feint a knee going from bottom to top order the ribs of the opponent and attack with a straight punch with border hand ... It will remain Wing Chun, as long as I fooled and the hit!

So not only we use kicks and punches combined, but we use punches and kicks crossed and we will use the principle to hold a minimum of unnecessary movements and maximum useful moves. Using, says Sitaaigung Duncan; - '' The right tool for the right service '.

WING CHUN VS O MUNDO TODO (???)
WING CHUN VS THE WHOLE WORLD (???)

In our school, we do not usually put a Wing Chun practitioner to train against another Wing Chun practitioner all the time attacks. In fact, when you practice some exercises inherent as Chi Sau, Lap Sau, you need someone experienced in Wing Chun to train with you. Now, when it comes to fighting techniques, what we do is put the Wing Chun system to work against the strongest attacks from other fighting styles within our specificity. With what I mean is that we can put the same traditional system techniques, common for many families and make them work against other styles of attack sequences, such as MMA, Muay Thay, Karate, Kickboxing, Western Boxing, etc. ... For this, we need to understand that every move can mean and work your potential.
This is not to mix the Wing Chun techniques with other styles at all. But note in the form of movements, which each concept means in practice and strengthen the system by the system itself. This makes our movements seem strange and different from other families of Wing Chun. But in fact, all that we train are movements of Wing Chun. For example, instead of using the classic system guard (with both hands pointed to the opponent), we observed how the opponent is behaving and assume a posture, exposing an area deliberately, so that when he strikes at the time we want, we can now close the area and catch him in the counter, which is a feature of the system; We always work on counterattacks.

But that does not mean we take a defensive posture. If we have to block blows all the time, we will always be at least one movement at a disadvantage in relation to the opponent. View and block are slower actions to anticipate and counter-act. Therefore, we will cover the area and not the blows. And we will hit him together, simultaneously.

LENDAS DO MESTRE IP MAN; O INVENCÍVEL
LEGENDS OF MASTER IP MAN; THE INVINCIBLE

Since this is a sensitive issue. Many people because of the movies, have the idea that Chung Si (Grand Master) Ip Man would have fought 20 karate guys who have broken or worn - in some versions - the barrel of a gun, or was it some kind of modern budah, which allegedly reached martial lighting at some point in life.

All these assumptions are part of the imagination of Chinese martial arts practitioners and are so widespread, that come to be confused with the truth.
The fact is that Chung Si Ip Man was an accomplished fighter, because he could devote to practice during his youth fully, since his family was wealthy and he had no need to work, because there were no difficulties or external problems to stop their practice.
 However, with the war, Ip Man lost his fortune and long, went through difficulties ever thought through. Sitaaigung Duncan says that during a period, Ip Man even had a blanket in cold weather, and asked for a loan to a student, who shortly afterwards asked back.
Some say that he was invincible, reports indicate that it was actually an accomplished fighter .... But perhaps one of its most striking features was the fact that he has passed through two extremes in life and still maintained his position as a martial artist , facing all the difficulties very brave way.

PORQUE EXISTEM TANTOS WING CHUNS DIFERENTES?
WHY ARE THERE SO MANY WING CHUN DIFFERENT?

This is always an issue addressed in a first class and even in discussion forums on the Internet the question is always the same; Because there are so many families of Wing Chun and because there are so many Wing Chun style differences?

The truth is that Ip Man taught only one Wing Chun. But as it is certain that if you teach the same thing for 10 people, those same 10 people will not perform the same exactly the same task (it has different body sizes, different weights, different heights, etc.). Moreover, to be an extremely conceptual art, Wing Chun opens possibilities of interpretations and modifications, based on personal experience of each practitioner.
Ip Man had several students and each of them, the light of his understanding can understand the system also based on their own experiences.

Making a comparison; Take a combat sport like boxing, for example. You can learn Jab, straight punch, cross punch, etc., combinations, footwork and dodging. All a core curriculum known to many practitioners of this same struggle. But what causes a Mike Tyson is different from a Cassius Clay or an Evander Hollifield? Certainly are not fighters exactly the same techniques, but supposedly learned the same thing. It is precisely the fact of how they train the training and what they learned from their experiences that will tell how they are like fighters. What are your strengths and how they develop these qualities.

Com o Wing Chun é a mesma coisa. Você aprende Siu Lin Tau, Chum Kiu, Biu Je, Chi Sau, Muk Yan Jong e Gurk Jong, Luk Dim Boon Kwun e Bat Jam Do.

With the Wing Chun is the same. You Can Learn Siu Lin Tau, Chum Kiu, Biu Je, Chi Sau, Muk Yan Jong and Gurk Jong, Luk Dim Boon Kwun and Bat Jam Do as the same way. William Cheung, Sitaaigung Duncan Leung, Moy Yat, Bruce Lee, Wong Shun Leung, Leung Ting among many others, supposedly learned the same thing, but Chung Si Ip Man probably encouraged them to develop their potential, worked its attributes and each had their experiences in struggle, each interpreted the system based on these experiences, which certainly helped to form their cores for teaching art. For this , they are different.

Not to extend too much, just say that Wing Chun system today is no better or worse than any style. What makes art be respected is that we know our strengths and weaknesses, know what is the specificity of style and we can draw useful system even to everyday experiences.

Comentando as técnicas dos novos videos - Commenting on the techniques of the new videos

I confess that I had no desire to comment on the Wing Chun techniques of our lineage for the last two videos made to promote our core Brazilian Wing Chun Academy in Recife. This is because due to a number of factors and issues of personal jurisdiction, problems which have left me really stressed to the point of the last week have a peak of high blood pressure - something I never had in my life! - I did not see the need to make a post about it ...

All that came to my head was a phrase I had read a long time ago and not remember exactly when or where I read this, I will not be able to credit the person - If you dear reader, to recognize the phrase and / or author, please post here for the credits - but it said something I really internalized; That when it comes to kung fu ... 'Kung Fu is not justified! You do not explain or make excuses his Kung Fu for people! ''

Ou algo similar...
Or something similar ...

E exatamente por isso que durante os últimos dias relutei bastante em escrever sobre os vídeos em sí. Talvez pelo fato de que muitos dos nossos leitores já estão habituados com nossa técnica e nossa visão conceitual sobre como devemos executar os princípios do sistema Wing Chun em determinados exercícios, eu não parei pra pensar muito e apenas me questionava;

And exactly why during the last few days quite reluctant to write about the videos themselves. Perhaps the fact that many of our readers are already accustomed with our technique and our conceptual vision about how we implement the principles of Wing Chun system in certain exercises, I did not stop to think too much and just questioned me;

  - '' For what I will comment on that? People who see and draw their conclusions duh! ''

I was pleased that the people who are part of my kung fu family (And I repeat what I have said many times here, Kung Fu Family are the people who are part directly and influencing my kung fu DIRECTLY such as SiFu, SiHings, Si-Dais, and it HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CLAN specifically here in Brazil, to be clear!), had already seen the video and commented on off me. The feeling was that he had no reason to really explain anything to anyone.

Mas, muitos dos leitores do Blog aqui são pessoas iniciantes ou apenas entusiastas do estilo. Alguns outros são meus próprios alunos e muitas vezes, durante uma aula muito aguerrida - como gostamos de fazer - , as explicações teóricas acabam ficando para outros momentos e isso é algo que realmente eu me esforço muito para gerenciar melhor e talvez leve tempo para conseguir equilibrar isso na medida em que eu acredito ser o ponto perfeito. Mas, esqueça essas besteiras...O fato é que as pessoas muitas vezes pedem pra que eu explique as técnicas com um argumento que me deixa realmente sem alternativa;

But many of blog readers here are beginners or just enthusiasts style people. Some others are my own students and often during a very fierce class - as we like to do - the theoretical explanations end up getting to other times and this is something that really I struggle a lot to better manage and may take time to achieve balance that to the extent that I believe to be the perfect spot. But forget this nonsense ... The fact is that people often ask to me to explain the techniques with an argument that makes me really no alternative;
 - '' Man, I really enjoyed the video, but did not understand anything of what you did! '

 And it's not because the movement is fast or slow, or anything else ... but because it is really difficult to identify the concepts and principles used in our lineage if you do not have at least a basic idea of how we use the Wing Chun's  techniques . I have a student in another city that says just that; - '' Dido, if you do not explain what's doing, the audience will never know how the technique works ... ''

And as incredible as it sounds, he's right. Because there opens a space for criticism of the most varied. I personally do not give a damn! But some are too idiot! Oh really!!! I received even a critique by another person from a guy who said, - '' I want something with more contact, since the teacher there're not hitting the real guy! ''
  What made me laugh a lot ... (hahahahahahahahahaha .... Being sarcastic)
  But without further ado, let's try to clarify some points before talking of the techniques of these videos ...

If you have seen videos of our lineage, schools in Brazil or outside Brazil may have estranged the fact that whenever we use protective equipment for combat and contact sports such as boxing gloves and shin guard Muay Thay. It is likely that if you talked about it with some other instructor, teacher or even SiFu any other lineage of Wing Chun on the use of this equipment, must have heard something like it; - '' These guys do not train the traditional Wing Chun, and blah blah blah ...''...

Dude, I've talked about this several times, but come on ...

First of all; Our style is traditional, in the way that it comes from a legitimate lineage. I have explained several times here that do not mix technique, which is not a '' hybrid 'style' or anything of that. All that we train is '' Ip Man Wing Chun '', as it was passed to Sitaaigung Duncan, who went to Sigung and Sigung went to SiFu and how SiFu passes me. There is no kind of mix it. If you notice, every video you make takes the title '' Wing Chun Kung Fu ''. It is therefore not 'Wing-Muay' ',' 'Karate-Chun' 'or' 'Wing -Kick-boxing-Chun' '....

But what we do and this makes our techniques become visually different (almost like a Fata Morgana visual effect hahaha), it is to put our technical '' traditional '' against the most common attacks from other martial arts styles. Taking the concept of what art originally proposed and putting them in practice.

At the time of training we call commonly Drills (tools), who will perform the technique will not actually achieve the training partner, for the simple fact prevent any more forceful blow, executed with full force and speed, can seriously hurt our training partner. After all, we are gentlemen and we are training an art, not something typical of thugs, even though the struggles in sí, we are much more fierce! Now ... accidents happen ...
 Precisely for this reason also, we use gloves and leggings. Are security measures and also so that we can train on the high level ever! It is redundant and repetitive write again about it. Overall, SiFu described very well why we use these devices and you can read this matter by clicking here. So go there and read the article before continuing ....

The video itself are examples of Drills or Fighting Drills, as we call and are possibilities for combinations of techniques that can be placed in certain situations. And even Drills are not only sí, Sparring and fighting itself. The idea to train these Drills, also known as SIK SAN or SAN SAU (fighting techniques or separate technical) style is to develop a sense of will respond appropriately determined attacks and automatically drives. Without the need to think at the time of action. Example; When someone calls your name in the street, you do not stop to think if your name is the same as it was called, the movement that will do to turn around and then answer ... you just turn and look!

Therefore, even if one can mimic the San Sau, or Fighting Drills, or even combinations, no matter how look good ... If in combat the practitioner does not understand the idea of how to apply it, or can not apply indeed of no use!

In this video below I use Siu Sau Ganh to close the left flank and attacking follow soon after advancing to the base and playing Sau Jam / Pie Jian. Notice; The system theory leads us to an idea of 'compensatory reversal', that is; According to Sitaaigung; Imagine a piece of wood floating in the water, one end sink, the other will emerge. Similarly, if we close an entire side or portion of my body with some defensive posture, the other side is conversely opened.

So Siu Ganh Sau in this case will not be enough to stop the opponent while already causing a huge pain in the opponent's arm, which run into the most damning parts of the technique (see article of SiFu above), then regardless of whether the second attack will come or not, I use the body turning to the open side (right), covering with Jam Sau (cut to the arm), entering Pie Jian, typical elbow found in Cham Kiu form, according to some interpretations, casting my base ahead in Toy Mah

Because I do not hit my training partner in this case?

By simply regardless of what the opponent can do as the second movement - to punch high or low does not matter, I have decided, from the first move that would close the open area on the other side and enter the elbow. In practice, it will not reset time, since I'm moving the back foot of his movement. But as it comes to training, I have no need to hit it in fact, and if I do, the damage from a blow coming with all force to stop training and takes him to the hospital, depending on where I reach.

However, the idea again is not hit. Beat everyone can and for that you do not need to learn martial art, you know? The idea here is to train the anticipation once an action is already set up and I'll have to act before the coup that I did not see, but that potentially exist, can happen.

In the second video (below) but it was released first, I do a combination of Bong Gurk (or writing in their phonetic mode Bong Geurk) with Pak Dar, closing the left flank against a usual combination of Roundhouse Kick (circular side kick) and straight punch, while the other way, use Gurk Lan (Lan Geurk) to close the right flank and hit back with Pak Dar, in the same way.

Usually, the idea of generative power and support to perform this type of coverage with the legs of a strong stomp we do with the leg-base, stretching it and throwing the leg that will cover with Kwan Sau, all side we want to close. But there's a catch in this video I'm not doing this and this has a reason ....

Before you continue this reading, I recommend you read about this technique in particular here.

Já no vídeo acima desta matéria eu estou descalço e treinando em cima de um tatame. O que acontece então? Caso eu pise com força como a técnica exige e estique a perna-base para criar a sustentabilidade necessária, as peças do tatame irão sair do lugar e provavelmente vou tomar um escorregão ou pior, desequilibrar e ai tenho três possibilidades;

If you took the trouble - and I hope you've done it - to go on the link recommended before proceeding with this reading and is an attentive person will realize that the video of the previous field I'm wearing sneakers and together with my partner Severino training Andrade, who received an indication of Grand Master Leo Imamura to see me here in Recife and start his Wing Chun training - and today is my personal friend - are training in common floor.
In the video above of this article I'm barefoot and training on top of a mat. What happens then? If I step hard as the technical demands and stretch the leg-base to create the necessary sustainability, tatami the parts will leave the place and I will probably take a slip or worse, off balance and there have three possibilities;

a) I take the shot in the face and if not erase, back pro fight.
b) kick Scape, but take a nasty spill, the fight goes to the ground and there I will have to use a Judo or Jiu Jitsu I have NOT ....
c) break the rule and try the technique in another way ...

The great thing about Wing Chun, at least for me, at least as I've been understanding what SiFu teaches me is that I can both '' Playing with the rules, '' as '' break the rules '' if necessary . So, since I, making a note of the location and the struggle environment, can give me wrong if you try the technique '' In rule '', I make up for it in another way. Obviously I will not deliver the gold here, but suffice to say that when SiFu seen the videos before I disclose, realized exactly what I did to make this '' problem ''. You dear reader, also has this keen eye to see how I do it? If yes, comments there debate!

Moreover, here are the same Pak Give discussed here previously and I hope that you can go in the archives here Blog and reread these matters. The most important is that once established the principles behind the movements, you can use them by the situation demands and adapt what has not happened yet, working in a clash of anticipation environment or the action itself ...

But forget this nonsense ... remember that you 'do not have to make excuses pro their Kung Fu, since Kung Fu is not justified', whatever that area of expertise is ...
