The false morality of Wing Chun's Masters - Part one

If you are a beginner looking for reliable information on Wing Chun, or even a researcher who despite studying in a serious school, is the usual habit of always tweak the Internet, watching videos, lectures, read about the Chinese martial art, you have probably noticed how diverse is the vision and the interpretation of various representatives of the most popular lines of Wing Chun in Brazil and other countries as well.

This '' phenomenon '' is not something unusual. At least in the clan wing chun. Since the 70s, shortly after the death of Yip Man, many discussions '' political '' (for want of a better term) have emerged and appear to date and much ended up unclear. The big '' X '' of question focuses the fact that each line has a curriculum that differs from one to another. Each system has its teaching methods, each of which is said to real or true. Some say the real branch holders, others accuse third parties of non teaches the '' true '' wing chun, still others are called Grand Masters of art. Among many, many who call themselves owners of absolute truth (even though clearly not), there are still those who are in the middle only to profit from the latent lack of information of the general public, providing information that is not verifiable, or worse; create more fantasy yet to sell their certificates.

At the same time, the art, in practical terms, ended up falling in disgrace and became a joke in the martial means, and this had a why. But, what really happened?

In the 60s, in Hong Kong, Wing Chun was front against the most traditional schools and was not behind to any other. Bruce Lee appeared and left the stunned audience with his skill! In other words, the Wing Chun school was a respected school! Only that was around ...

Following the death of Yip Man, and his non-appointment of a person to organize the family wing chun, some said '' SiFus' 'began teaching content that even the Master Yip Man had never even supposed taught. A part' 'internal' 'of the Wing Chun training and few access, perhaps the most common way to bring exclu $ ivty to these schools without these were directly linked to the traditional teaching of art, or at least one which will content Old Man believed ...

As a result, many of these same 'SiFus' began to gain the world and saw a niche market will be explored; The high gain money cultivating the mystery of secret techniques and the (future) accessibility will a genealogy of masters with their name stamped in the pantheon of  marcials arts. And many people bought the idea ... who has sale, has anyone buying ....

Some other schools had even family tree, but when asked, only claimed to be a '' reference '', without any connection. Others said they were masters grains and put in higher levels than even Yip Man.Others ran after injury time after, trying to somehow buy franchises or representations. Have the technique in itself ... bulshit!

But there is a point will be understood. In time; many attribute to Yip Man the Grand Master title style wing chun. This title, which he never granted to itself, perhaps one of the most conflictive. The successor of Chan Wah Sun family leadership, which will Yip Man belonged, was recognized Chan Yiu Min and Yip Man, as a traditional Chinese, never would use something that does not belong. Nor can it be said that he was the family leader in Hong Kong, or the first to teach in Hong Kong, because in history in which all the different schools of the same name preach, Leung Bik taught  Yip Man in Hong Kong after the death of Chan Wah Sun Therefore, Yip Man could not be placed with Grand Master.

Yip man also did not name any of his students as 'SiFu' except Jiu Wan, the one to which Yip Man formalized as SiFu. How could he provide for the succession of something that he did not 'headed' ??

In the course of the 70s, and 80s, the art was still being transmitted in very closed and restricted way the general public. The fighting arts were suffering and modifying influences, shaping the counter-culture, local influences and even the street brawler, marginal or the guy who just trained to fight, whether they may be and in which environments were, already know this will time to make a simple boxeur combo one-twoo , a low kick Muay Thay, or even a triangle Jiu Jitsu because the information was beginning to be accessible. The Wing Chun, however, ended up back in a way and the most efficient style of speech that exists, only made the practitioners stay with the image of arrogant people, but at the time do'vamos see ', seemed expensive bad fight ....

Only then came the Gracie family, still in the nineties and made a big favor to challenge the masters of whatever the style, which has nearly said '' interstellar '', with its 'heavenly' knowledge, and secret art of killing, and brought to reality on the basis of the fight. They did not only in the championships. They went to the academies and the beating down on said 'masters' simply to show that that whole fallacy of no use (and obviously their superiority at that time was well ahead)! In this, the speech of said '' Masters '' of wing chun was forced to change will continue profitable ...

What happened next?
The 'masters' fell in real and began to strengthen their styles?
The wing chun again be respected ??

Apenas a ''embalagem'' mudou.

Well, not so much ....
The way these schools, different among themselves, but they teach the same art, remained the same. Only the 'packaging' has changed.
The reality of the arts fight dramatically changed with the advent of MMA. A few schools of Wing Chun had the humility to redirect their training to something more effective (What??? if the previous speech was efficiently art, because it was no longer and would need to improve?), While a few others continued to do what they always do. Those focused on unrestricted combat has always followed the pace of change and timidly - or without as much impact as well - started will fall on the field in the ring, but others, parked in time, relegating its effectiveness at 4 walls of your kwoon.
Meanwhile in Brazil and abroad, practitioners began to get out of your comfort zone and were seeking knowledge abroad with the known authentic teachers of their schools. These formed the generation SiFus who are more experienced and probably better able to continue the work begun by the pioneers who came to our country in the late 70. It is precisely these teachers who are the biggest critics of their own arts (because understand without having to downgrade other styles) and defending honest transmission of your martial legacy, effectively fighting quackery and disparate stories in the martial community.

However, license sales will high price, and with meager return when both theoretical and practical content only increased. In many ways, the joke remained the same from decades ago ....

Giving a time warp, currently, the view that there is of those who practice Wing Chun is the fighter '' nerd ''. The fighter forums that do not train, do not study, is not a disciple of a qualified SiFu but understands better everyone on Wing Chun, which art will even dominates in fact. The guy who theorizes all, calculating angles, which puts the lame excuse that his art is not in the top leagues and competitions that is too lethal for it, or who knows a content that no one else knows; usually associated to things like qigong, meditation and other addendum associated to Eastern culture not as known to the Western public in general, but to make up for their lack of latent knowledge, mixing their little knowledge with other arts like Jiu Jitsu or Kick Boxing (that bread and butter of kick boxing dubbed in Brazil Muay Thay - in a poetic license - it even has roots with original art in Thailand, or any other dissent) .The practitioner who understands his martial art without syncretism, is becoming increasingly rare to find ...

And that, more and more discussions arise. More and more information mismatched. Articles and serious materials posted on the art of wing chun side posts will side with articles that have nothing to do with art and / or that are not reliable or verifiable. As most people are short-sighted and want everything in hand, people end up coming back to issues of 3 or 5 years ago, without the slightest foundation. Or the other extreme; the nerd discovers a site '' old '' and wonder with the information recently discovered more than 10 years ago ... Apart from the fact people without any training, which also have no theoretical background, technical and practical, open schools and will boast wide and the right to be holders of lineage 'X', or master of representatives '' Y '', or even the crudest of all; teach YOUR version of what would be the Wing Chun.

With all this, the self-righteousness of those who teach to swim but does not enter the water remains at large around. Schools and more schools that teach the Wing Chun fighting techniques and even fight, whether in academy or in kwoon or tournaments are still around. Those who do not prove in practice that training on the concept remain the same. The practitioners' non-thinking '' and regurgitant of old ideas seem to have too lazy to think and to train. Have the - few - that still train something, boast blood sweat and tears when a stiffer workout is done (something that should be required daily and actually), but no combat, important to note that .... The pat on the back of the representatives of other schools, post pictures with Chinese masters but that behind, and try to defame will round up all costs gullible students as if they were a reallity show, or a fanatical religious denomination, trying to convince others of its truth also still around.
The alleged 'lack of traditionalism' 'in the use of safety equipment that allow contact so as not to hurt the partner and at the same time make a more rewarding workout is also extremely hyped
.

Anderson Silva appears doing a great commercial for art, slapping the Muk Yan Jong and the nerd fighter paunchy think so, there is misunderstood stone genesis Martial Arts ... There is a safe haven, a reliable place in between which will the beginner can find safe and reliable information ?? Yes, but things, as in any traditional Chinese art, is not so in sight as Westerners think they are - or not - and this will be the league for part two of this article ....
